Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks (フェス・ゴジラ3 ガイガン来襲 is a Fesu Gojira Surī: Gaigan Raishū)tokusatsu kaiju short film directed, edited, and storyboarded by Kazuhiro Nakagawa. Funded by TOHO Visual Entertainment, it was produced by Episcope. It is the third of the "Fest Godzilla" shorts prepared for Godzilla Fest, after Godzilla Appears at Godzilla Fest and Godzilla vs. Hedorah, serving as a direct sequel to the latter. Like the entry before it, Fest Godzilla 3 was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its titular villain. It, along with the CG-animated short Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, premiered during Godzilla Fest 2022 on November 3, 2022: the first Godzilla Fest event to feature more than one original production. It employs a crowdfunded replica of the Showa Gigan suit realized by Shinichi Wakasa and MONSTERS, Inc.
Plot
Following his victory over Hedorah, Godzilla confronts Gigan, who appears in a blue flash over Tokyo. After the cyborg lands, Godzilla opens the fight with a blast of atomic breath, but Gigan shields his face with his Hammer Hands and returns fire with his forehead laser. Godzilla stumbles backwards before charging Gigan as he continues firing lasers. Gigan slashes Godzilla on the cheek, leaving a small wound. Godzilla continues fighting in close quarters, now taking care to avoid Gigan's Hammer Hands; one errant swing slices the top off a radio tower. Godzilla aims a punch at Gigan's forehead laser, breaking it. Enraged, Gigan activates his buzz saw, cutting a deep wound into Godzilla's chest. He collapses onto an overpass, dazed. Gigan approaches and prepares to finish him off, but Godzilla catches his Hammer Hands mid-swing and rises to his feet. Keeping his grip on the blades, Godzilla breathes atomic fire into Gigan's face; the cyborg falls backwards and explodes. Godzilla lets loose a long victory roar.

The campaign concluded that May 31, failing to reach its ¥15 million goal but nonetheless accruing ¥11,504,405 from 642 backers.[2] With the announcement of Godzilla Fest 2022 on September 20 of that year,[3] the film was revealed to be the third in a series of festival originals directed by Kazuhiro Nakagawa which began in 2020.
The first teaser trailer for Fest Godzilla 3 was released on October 14, 2022. A slightly longer preview followed on October 21.
Production
Unlike Nakagawa's previous shorts, which were filmed outdoors on open sets, Fest Godzilla 3 was primarily shot indoors on Toho Studios' 6th sound stage.[4] After two days assembling the miniature set,[4] the staff began shooting on September 27, 2022.[1] The majority of filming concluded that September 29,[5] with a few outdoor shots taken on October 1.[6]
The short employs a replica of the Showa Gigan suit built by veteran Godzilla suitmaker Shinichi Wakasa and his company MONSTERS, Inc. Opposite Gigan is the "action" FinalGoji suit which they created for Godzilla Final Wars.[7]

Trivia
- As in Godzilla vs. Gigan, a blow from Godzilla breaks Gigan's forehead laser; this time, however, he fires it beforehand. Unlike many previous depictions of the laser, the ray is purple instead of red.
- Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks' Japanese title, Fesu Gojira Surī: Gaigan Raishū (フェス・ゴジラ3 ガイガン来襲), is extremely similar to that of Rebirth of Mothra 3: Mosura Surī: Kingu Gidora Raishū (モスラ3 キングギドラ来襲).
