How do I upload an image?

[edit]

Pictures under a license that allows reuse can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. Once uploaded, they can be used here under the filename you chose when uploading.

Question from Librari minish (10:53, 28 October 2024)

[edit]

Hi Rusty, I created this account so I could update the European XFEL's company logo of their wiki page since it is quite old. I have uploaded a svg version of the logo in commons, with the proper name. Not sure if I have to take more steps so the changes take effect.

Apologies for such a beginners' question, thanks in advance for your help. --Librari minish (talk) 10:53, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Librari minish: No worries; we all start somewhere. The previous version of the logo in Commons was a png, so you will need to go into the XFEL article on Wikipedia and change the filename from ending in ".png" to ".svg". Rusty 🐈 13:48, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:ChatthiMaiyyaKiBitiya 194016 ec95625e-19e5-4064-9bd9-231d9a4a186e.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 17:42, 28 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi Rusty Cat, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the new page reviewer user right to your account. This means you now have access to the page curation tools and can start patrolling pages from the new pages feed. If you asked for this at requests for permissions, please check back there to see if your access is time-limited or if there are other comments.

This is a good time to re-acquaint yourself with the guidance at Wikipedia:New pages patrol. Before you get started, please take the time to:

You can find a list of other useful links and tools for patrollers at Wikipedia:New pages patrol/Resources. If you are ever unsure what to do, ask your fellow patrollers or just leave the page for someone else to review – you're not alone! signed, Rosguill talk 17:40, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello my recent draft was declined due to "Lots of unsourced claims and statements of fact". Could you please take a look and help me what are those instead of just sending me link about Notability. I want specific points and issues with the drafts so I can correct those. --Taramayatamang (talk) 11:09, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Taramayatamang: You seem to have improved the article's sourcing since the article was last declined 2-3 days ago. Wait until the reviewer gets back to you and you can ask me again then if it gets declined. Rusty 🐈 14:11, 8 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Byrangerry (01:45, 14 November 2024)

[edit]

Hi Rusty Cat. Do you review my edits as a newcomer? On one I edited a sentence said to be 'peacock prose' in an edit note. What happens to the edit note...is my edit reviewed and then the edit note is removed or should I be removing the edit note? Thanks --Byrangerry (talk) 01:45, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Byrangerry: Welcome to Wikipedia! I am your mentor, but that doesn't give me many special powers over anyone else; anyone can see and check there edits if they wish. If you're referring to the maintenance template by "edit note", you can safely remove it once you believe the issue has been rectified. Rusty 🐈 05:05, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:51, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Do all edits require discussion? --The2gingerman (talk) 16:13, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@The2gingerman: not necessarily, there are many types of edits that have been agreed upon by the community to be non-controversial. However, if you think an edit may be controversial it may be best to discuss the edit first, or state your intents when making the edits on the talk page. Rusty 🐈 19:08, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
