Be Here

Everyday Creativity

Welcome to the studio! There are many ways to participate: Drop in and share a cup, read a book, or make something. Join a class, put on a show, take some time to breathe deeply… Once upon a time, this was only our place. Now it’s for everyone!

See below for some of what’s on offer.

Any of the opportunities below can be booked as a gift and given to someone else – be in touch.

Spit and Sawdust

Beautiful and basic cooperative co-working space

This is for you if… you want to work in a communal space that insn’t a cafe, and that always smells incredible.

Mix a song, hone some code, write a book, or fix your accounts. Bring your laptop or notebook and find a place to fit in.

There’s a sofa, tables low and high, workbenches, quiet upstairs, a floor and many cushions, blankets and a fire in winter. We have fast Wi-fi, copious coffee and an enviable slection of teas. There are always dates and biscuits and oat milk, sometimes home baked treats. If you need an archaic cable, strange stationary, a particular pen or some oil paint, you’ll probably find it here too.

£2 per person per hour (or pay what you can for friends) – just drop in, Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Saturday, if there’s room you’re welcome.

Making Days

Devote a day to crafting something beautiful and unique.

This is for you if… You’d like to join an intimate and friendly cohort of other creative people to complete a set project from start to finish, and go home tired (possibly blistered) but blissful. Spoon Moot

Every Friday evening we come together to carve out a spoon shaped piece of peace!

This is for you if… You’d like a social space to whittle away at things.

Spoons are where it starts but we might end up anywhere! All are welcome, whatever shape you’re in you’ll fit. 6-8pm, minimum £8 donation to keep the space growing & tea flowing, and trees growing.

Expect tea, coffee, something sweet and maybe even some music to help the evening along.

Please bring your own tools and wood if you have them, or share what’s here. Spoons are a beginning, but people make pots, bowls, art and objects of all kinds.

We all learn from each other, but this is not a class or workshopIf you have never whittled here before or don’t know one end the axe from another, then book an intro session with us and sharpen up your skills first. It’s important that everyone attending is confident and safe and knows the space.

There are regular pre-Moot sessions for people just starting out to learn the basic skills, and full day classes to take your carving further too.

This is for you if… You’d enjoy some company, knowledgeable support and a bit of hustle and bustle while learning new skills, creating your own projects and developing the confidence to take things further.

The number of people using the workshop at any one time will be limited, to support the best experience for everyone. It’s important to us that you feel comfortable and confident visiting here, but things can get busy and there is often a healthy bustle.

The workshop is a place to respect and acknowledge differences, and to find a common ground.

Being here in a good, respectful way is important, whether you are unfamiliar with particular tools you plan to use, or are confident with certain tools but have never used them here before, then you will be inducted in proper use as part of your initial session time. First aid and fire protocol will be covered during your first session.

Friends and supporters of the workshop get 16.18% off the price of any booking and pay-what-you-feel for Making Time and Co-Working.

*please note certain materials for personal projects may incur extra cost (e.g. expensive fixings, fancy wood, papers, paint or finishes).
