Death / The Reaper[]
The Reaper is the main protagonist in this series. No matter how scared, angry, lost and rejecting a soul is, the Reaper meets them with patience and understanding. He has a very close relationship with "Life" and is always trying to cheer her up.
Life[]
Life is the counterpart of the Reaper/Death and is represented as the "origin of all life". While she too has patience and compassion for all of her creations, she sometimes seems a bit childlike and high-spirited. Death enjoys her playful nature more than he would admit. Life especially loves baby toucans, but would never admit that she loves one creation more than another.
Zack Yaten[]
Zack is a recurring character who first appeared in "Little Fish," accompanying his elderly and ailing German shepherd "Atlas" on his final trip to the vet. In a sequel, he has to befriend a new puppy his brother gave him as a "replacement dog", although Zack doesn't feel ready. Atlas' spirit must return once again to show the new puppy the way to Zack's heart. Zack is good-natured though prone to temperamental outbursts.
