The construction of a container terminal capable of receiving the largest ships that can enter the Baltic, the expansion of a gas port, and offshore projects – are the most important ongoing investments in the Port of Szczecin-Świnoujście. It is already the fastest-growing port complex in the southern Baltic. The ongoing investments are expected to further accelerate this development, although port authorities indicate that the forecast for the coming year is fraught with many uncertainties.
"We've already had two 'black swans' in the last two-three years, and let's hope that they don't fly in flocks," Daniel Stachiewicz, vice president of the Szczecin and Świnoujście Seaports Authority, pointed out.
He added that last year at the Szczecin-Świnoujście ports, the volume of transshipments amounted to more than 36.8 million tons, nearly 3.6 million tons more than in 2021, with fuels accounting for the largest share of the increase. A large increase was achieved in the transshipment of LNG at the Świnoujście gas port, and the second group was coal, a bulk cargo that is essential for the Polish economy.
According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, last year the volume of transshipments at the Szczecin-Świnoujście Port increased by a total of 11 percent y/y, and this was the fifth-highest result in the Baltic Sea.
