Surf and turf at MRKT
Website

Not every Las Vegan dreams of living in a sleek highrise on the Strip. Some locals prefer the quiet, suburban neighborhoods on the outskirts of the city. One especially popular option for those seeking out an affordable place to start a family is the Aliante neighborhood in North Las Vegas. The master-planned community located about a half hour from the Strip features parks, peaceful cul de sacs, and a high concentration of military families.

As a result of Aliante’s location, many residents only head downtown or to the Strip for special occasions, preferring to spend time at the restaurants and bars at Aliante Casino instead. Fortunately, the neighborhood has options for breakfast, lunch or dinner — and not just inside the casino — in the area without making the drive to another part of Las Vegas. Here are five restaurants to check out near Aliante this weekend.

Surf and turf done right

Located in a stylish, colorful space in Aliante Casino, MRKT offers seafood, steak, and an extensive wine list. From oysters on the half shell to braised short rib, diners can choose between the best of the land or the sea — or opt for a little bit of both with a 7-ounce filet and 12-ounce lobster. Delectable sides include creamed corn with Fresno chilis, barbecue baked beans, and loaded mashed potatoes.

Chicken and waffles at Waffles Cafe
Yelp/Waffles Cafe

Sweet or savory waffles

Waffles are often seen as a decadent, dessert-like dish — almost like having cake for breakfast. At Waffles Cafe, the breakfast staple can be sweet or savory. The casual cafe serves decadent waffles such as the Cherry Blossom (chocolate waffles with warm cherry pie filling and ice cream) and chicken and waffles with whipped strawberry butter and hot sauce. Indecisive diners can customize their own waffles, starting with the batter and adding sweets, nuts, fruits and sides.

Gryos at The Little Greek
Yelp/The Little Greek

Fresh gyros

Why does a fast, inexpensive lunch always result in an uninspired sandwich or boring salad? For a fresh alternative, The Little Greek has the perfect fix in the form of gryos served with tzatziki sauce, feta, tomatoes, and a side of seasoned potatoes. The menu also includes salmon on orzo with pita and salad, hummus and warm pita and baklava for dessert.

All-you-can-eat offerings at Kaizen

Late-night sushi

One of the downsides of living away from the Strip is less access to late-night dining options. Fortunately, for diners who prefer their sushi after 9 p.m., Kaizen Fusion Roll & Sushi is open until 11 p.m. or midnight seven days a week. The busy spot offers a popular all-you-can-eat option along with tempura, skewers, sashimi, and an insanely long list of maki rolls served a la carte.

Kaizen Fusion Roll & Sushi, 2760 Deer Springs Way #101; 702-838-7735

Tacos at Asada
Yelp/Veronica B.

Tacos and agua fresca

Access to authentic Mexican food is one of the many culinary benefits of living in Las Vegas. In the Aliante neighborhood, the place to get it is Asada. The restaurant serves heaping portions of tacos with rice and beans, quesadillas, tortas and homemade agua fresca. Diners should keep an eye out for weekend specials on menu items including pozole and birria.

Asada, 6412 Losee Road #100; 702-485-5714
