In short: yes. Vagabond's Musashi is based off of Eiji Yoshikawa's novel Musashi. The novel is based off of the real Musashi but the events within the book are not entirely accurate to what happened in reality. There are some real events that took place in the novel such as Musashi's duel with Kojiro.
