Man suffers 'serious injuries' after horror sledging incident in Greater Manchester
A man in his 20s was rushed to hospital by ambulance with 'serious injuries' following a horror sledging incident in Bury. Emergency services descended on Kirklees Brook, near to Stockton Drive in Tottington, on Sunday afternoon (January 5).
The man was rescued by firefighters after falling down a 'large slope', according to Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS). In an update issued today (Monday), a North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) spokesperson said: "A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with suspected serious injuries."
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large emergency services presence at the scene. Many families across Greater Manchester took advantage of the heavy snow on Sunday by sledging on hills.
A string of weather warnings were issued for snow and ice by the Met Office over the weekend. A further warning will be in force from 5pm this evening until 10am on Tuesday morning.
A GMFRS spokesperson said on Sunday: "Shortly after 1:30pm this afternoon (Sunday, January 5), three fire engines from Bury, Whitefield and Bolton Fire Stations, along with the Technical Response Unit from Ashton were called to reports of a person needing rescue after falling down a large slope near Stockton Drive, Bury. Crews arrived quickly and used specialist rescue equipment to bring the person to safety.
"They have been transferred to the care of NWAS. Firefighters were in attendance for around an hour and a half."
