SOMERSET and Devon are expecting snow over three days in a recent forecast released by the Met Office.

Today (Monday, January 6) the Met Office has released a yellow warning for snow in Somerset and Devon areas.

The warning comes after recent snow fell in the two southwest counties in the last week.

A three day snow and ice warning has been put in place from today (January 6-January 8).

In certain areas, 5cm or more of snow could accumulate fairly widely with areas at higher ground the most likely to be affected.

This, accompanied by strengthening winds, may lead to drifting of lying snow.

Practically all of Somerset and Devon are in the upcoming yellow warning area - but places like Weston-super-Mare, Ilfracombe, and Midsomer Norton are expected to miss out on the white stuff.

Icy stretches and sleet/snow showers are expected to develop overnight, causing some disruption, especially to travel on roads.

"Icy stretches are expected to develop this evening, due to ongoing wet surfaces following earlier rain and, in places, snowmelt," reads the full Met Office forecast. "Frequent sleet or snow showers are also expected to affect Wales and parts of northwest England this evening, moving into southwest England, the Midlands and parts of southern England in the early hours of Tuesday.

"In addition to the ice, these are likely to produce snow accumulations of a few cm above 200 metres, with a small chance of greater than 5 cm above 200 metres in Wales.

"The heaviest snow showers may also produce temporary accumulations of 0-2 cm at low levels."
