ITV GMB's Ranvir Singh interrupts broadcast with 'breaking news' announcement
Good Morning Britain was interrupted with a 'breaking news' announcement on Tuesday. Presenter Ranvir Singh had urgent news for ITV viewers, as she revealed a natural disaster had taken place in China.
She informed viewers of an earthquake which had taken place in 23km from Shigatse, Tibet at around 9am local time (1am GMT). The countries impacted include Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Bhutan and China, with the earthquake having a magnitude of 7.1.
A live segment airing from Downing Street was interrupted by the announcement, as GMB cut to Ranvir back in the ITV studio. She announced: "And some breaking international news, at least 53 people have died and dozens others have been injured in a strong earthquake in Tibet."

The TV presenter went on to reveal that the earthquake was considered to be around seven on the Richter scale, and it was near the "holy city" of Shigatse. She added that tremors were felt in Nepal and parts of India, too.
As Ranvir spoke, footage of the earthquake and aftermath was shown, with trembling visibly able to be seen. The initial earthquake was followed by a number of aftershocks with magnitudes of up to 4.4, according to state media.
News broke of the earthquake on Tuesday morning, with Chinese state media reporting that 53 had died while 62 are injured. According to data from the US Geological Survey, the earthquake had a depth of 10km.
Earthquakes are common in the region, as it lies on a major geological fault line. The Indian and Eurasian plates clash in the area, which consequently causes uplifts, which therefore form the Himalayan mountains.
About 1,500 fire and rescue workers have been deployed to search for people in the rubble, according to China's Ministry of Emergency Management. Anoj Raj Ghimire, chief district officer of Solukhumbu district in Nepal, said: "We felt a very strong earthquake. So far we have not received any report of injuries or physical loss."
Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays on ITV1 at 6am.
