Two Montreal men face charges and two other suspects are sought in the thefts of Ford F150s, York Regional Police say.
On Monday at 3:30 a.m., a vehicle theft call was reported in the area of Queensville Sideroad E. and Leslie St. in the Town of East Gwillimbury.
A witness said he saw two males stealing his neighbour’s grey Ford F150 pickup truck.
Responding officers spotted the stolen truck driving southbound on Leslie St. and attempted to stop it but the truck evaded them.
However, a white Audi seen travelling in tandem with the truck was stopped and two suspects fled on foot.
“A perimeter was set up and after a lengthy track by the canine unit both male suspects were caught,” police said in a statement Tuesday.
A backpack with a laptop and various vehicle-theft equipment was allegedly seized from them.
Police say that they learned through investigation that the suspects allegedly stole another Ford F150 earlier that night.
Mathieu Authier, 31, and Ali Kirisikoglu, 20, are charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, two counts of theft of motor vehicle, and possession of automobile master key.
Kirisikoglu was on two release orders for unrelated criminal offences, cops say, and is also charged with two counts of fail to comply with order.
