Santa Pete is a mall Santa who became trapped in the San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital ER during a viral quarantine.

Season 2[]
In "Quarantine," Santa Pete visits the ER due to stomach problems and becomes trapped when a viral quarantine is established. Santa Pete is discovered to have a bowel obstruction, but under the circumstances, Drs. Audrey Lim, Morgan Reznick and Shaun Murphy are unable to operate on him. Instead, Nurse Deena Petringa suggests a saline enema which appears to clear the obstruction. Unlike most of the patients trapped in the waiting room, Santa Pete maintains a friendly attitude. However, his obstruction later returns and becomes a bowel perforation, forcing Shaun and Morgan to perform surgery under less than ideal conditions and guided by Lim who became infected. Shaun ends up being called away while Lim collapses as she guides Morgan through a crucial part of the surgery, leaving Santa Pete's life hanging in the balance as Morgan plugs bleeding in his abdomen with her finger and has no idea how to fix it.
In "Quarantine: Part Two," Morgan manages to revive Shaun who collapsed of sensory overload by getting him to focus on Santa Pete's condition. Shaun helps Morgan resolve the complication and together the two residents manage to repair Santa Pete's bowel. Santa Pete is subsequently left recovering on a gurney in the ER as the quarantine continues, suggesting the help of retired veterinarian Esther for Dr. Alex Park's bone marrow extraction operation.
After the quarantine is over, Shaun visits Santa Pete and assures him that he has tested clear of the virus. However, he cannot yet leave the hospital as Santa Pete still has to recover from his surgery for the bowel obstruction. Esther promises to keep him company after she talks to Bob Cravens' son.
