Wrangler is a minor character in the Amazon series The Boys. He is considered as a possible new candidate to join The Seven.

Background[]

Shortly after Wrangler's birth, his parents accepted Vought's offer to inject him with Compound V, subsequently transforming him into a Supe and granting him superhuman powers and abilities.

Based out in San Antonio, Texas, Wrangler successfully established himself as a supe celebrity and a 3-Gun United States champion. He has been featured in various films including Border Wall: Last Line of Defense, Wrangler: The Angel on the Border, Migrant Mayhem!, and Immigration Invasion. These roles suggest that his public image is heavily geared towards border security and anti-immigration sentiments.

Wrangler's controversial views extended beyond the silver screen. He was involved in numerous killings of Mexican migrants, actions that were meticulously covered up by Vought's office in San Antonio.

"Department of Dirty Tricks"[]

Wrangler is one of twenty-five new candidates to join The Seven. Ashley Barrett views his profile, describing Wrangler as a Texas nutjob and revealing that the San Antonio office had to cover up his countless killings of migrants. However, Homelander says he likes Wrangler, causing Ashley to backtrack her statement immediately. The Deep also agrees, calling Wrangler a mensch.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Superhuman Accuracy: Wrangler possesses uncanny aim with firearms far beyond the level of mastery ordinarily obtainable to non-supe humans.
  • Superhuman Hearing: Wrangler possesses superhuman hearing, allowing him to hear better than humans. Like all Supes, he can hear higher frequencies that humans cannot.[1]

Abilities[]

  • Master Marksman: Wrangler is proficient with firearms, possessing extensive knowledge and experience in fast draw, quick scope, hip fire, and "slide cancel" techniques. He has also received training with the VRA Advanced Tactical Response.
  • Master Interrogator: Wrangler is trained in enhanced interrogation techniques.
  • Lasso Mastery: Wrangler is extremely skilled at roping calves.
  • Bilingual: Wrangler has some proficiency in Spanish, having completed one semester of study.

Weaknesses[]

Biological[]

  • High Frequencies: Due to being a Supe, Wrangler is susceptible to high frequencies. When a high frequency is playing, it can induce immense pain and temporarily neutralize him.

Equipment[]

  • Super Suit: Like most Supes, Wrangler has his own superhero costume.

References[]

  1. Bob in First Day: "Did you know Supes have a wider range of hearing than us? Like dogs."

Trivia[]

  • Wrangler is most likely based on Jonah Hex and Rawhide Kid.
  • Wrangler's established persona as a supe celebrity in San Antonio, Texas, a state often associated with strong conservative values, and his film roles emphasize his anti-immigration stance. Movies like Border Wall: Last Line of Defense and Migrant Mayhem! portray him as a crusader against immigrants, suggesting his public image is constructed to appeal to right-wing political sentiments. This thematic choice is likely a satirical commentary on xenophobia and the use of media to shape public opinion.
  • Homelander's approval of Wrangler suggests that Wrangler's far-right views and methods resonate with Homelander's increasingly authoritarian and xenophobic tendencies.
  • Wrangler's firearm techniques such as "hip fire" and "slide cancel" are references to first-person shooter (FPS) games, particularly from the Call of Duty series.
