This Tribe Will Self-Destruct in 5, 4, 3... is the season finale of Survivor: Cook Islands.

Story[]

Day 37[]

Adam is sitting in the shelter alone, saying he had no one to sleep with the previous night. Everyone else is out chopping coconuts, and wonder where Adam is, and see him alone in the shelter. Sundra mentions in a confessional how they never discussed what they plan to do once they reach the final 4. In another confessional, Becky talks about how the Aitu Four made it this far because they stuck together, but they will have compete against each other and it will be hard to beat Ozzy, and Ozzy knows his threat level is high. At the Immunity Challenge, Ozzy would claim yet another victory, winning his spot in the Final Three. Not knowing it will be a final three, Ozzy hopes to win the next two challenges and take out Yul, who he views as his competition. Yul still has the Hidden Immunity Idol, and Adam hopes he can get rid of it while he is still in the game.

At Tribal Council, Jeff asks Ozzy if anything happened to change Adam's fate. Ozzy says the necklace was the only thing that could have changed and Adam agrees he is done, knowing Becky, Ozzy, Sundra, and Yul are set on the final 4. Jeff asks Becky how the game will change with only the Aitu Four remaining, and she mentions how they let Ozzy win the challenges for them. Ozzy says he wants to win the next Immunity Challenge and the title of Sole Survivor, and Adam says Ozzy's job is to win challenges, Yul is the guy behind everything, and he is not sure whagt Becky and Sundra do since they don't like to take risks. Adam brings up Yul's idol and Becky doesn't think it's the right time for it to be used. Adam brings up how he tried to get rid of Yul's idol, and Becky things it is better to be brought out at the following Tribal Council. Ultimately, Adam's suspicions were right and he was sent home in a 4-1 vote.

After returning from Tribal Council, the Aitu Four celebrate themselves being the final four. Yul is happy that the Sole Survivor will be from a minority community.

Day 38[]

Yul and Becky open tree mail and notice they have two things. They are instructed to get in their canoe and paddle to the biggest island and hike to the highest point. During the hike, they pass by the torches of their Fallen Comrades to remember them. They also find out it will be their Final Immunity Challenge, realizing there are four people left in the game, they do not know what will happen. Jeff explains one of them will be the final jury member ans the other 3 will be eligible for the title of Sole Survivor. Ozzy ended up winning immunity, yet again, securing his spot in the final three.

Upon returning back to camp, Ozzy tells everyone he almost fell off twice. He stated in a confessional how he was surprised Becky came in second in the challenge, thinking she would have fallen much earlier. Sundra was hoping to win the challenge and for the jury to walk in and be surprised to see her wearing the Immunity Necklace. Ozzy and Yul talk about who to vote off between Becky and Sundra, and Yul feels the most effective solution is to force a 2-2 tiebreaker between the two. Yul offers to give Becky his hidden immunity idol, which Becky things would look bad to the jury, but knows it's her or Sundra getting voted out.

At Tribal Council, Jeff reminds everyone of the final three and how one of them will be the final jury member. He also notes that Yul is safe with his idol and Ozzy has immunity, leaving Becky and Sundra. Jeff asks Sundra if she felt as good as she did last tribal council when she had the plan; Sundra mentioned it was a risk she had to take and is fine with how things are. Ozzy talks about his pitch for a tie, which the others agreed with,, and how he is voting Becky, Yul is voting Sundra, and they will be voting each other while letting the cards fall where they may. The vote is tied 2-2 between Becky and Sundra, and since Yul did not play his idol on one of them, they are forced to compete in a fire-making challenge. They both struggle to make fire, and after 1 hour, everyone gets bored and Jeff tells them to stop and go to matches. Sundra lights her match first, but has trouble keeping her fire alive, and eventually runs out of matches. Becky gets her fire started and it grows big enough to burn the rope, winning her the third spot in the final three.

Day 39[]

Ozzy, Becky, and Yul celebrate making it to Day 39, enjoying the last sunrise in the Cook Islands. Becky anticipates the jury asking her questions about riding Ozzy's and Yul's coattails, but believes she played a social game. Ozzy notices a canoe approaching the beach with two women bringing them a buffet. Ozzy and Yul call for Becky, but have no idea where she is. Ozzy states in a confessional that he believes himself and Yul being there is symbolic of how the jury will vote, with them getting the majority of the votes and Becky getting zero votes, after her fire-making performance. Becky arrives and excitedly runs to enjoy the feast with the guys. Yul says he values the friendship he made with Becky, believing that is worth more than a million dollars. Ozzy is hopeful that Final Tribal will go well.

At Final Tribal Council, Yul begins his opening statement by stating he did not want to play an individual game that got himself to the end, as well as being part of dominant teams and alliances and played a key role in leading them, while he manipulated some people and stayed loyal to others. Becky said she came in knowing she would not be the strongest, fastest, or smartest person, but relied on her social game by connecting with people to form an alliance and tried to play the game while being true to her word. Ozzy claims he was the underdog from Day 1, and found himself in a scary position after his tribemates were voted out, but never let it stop him. He said he knew he would be gone if he didn't provide for the tribe, and never tried to hide who he was, playing wholeheartedly.

Nate was the first juror to speak. He congratulates all 3 of them, and tells Yul he played like a "gangster boss", sitting back and playing smart. Nate puts Ozzy on the opposite end, seeing him as a warrior, and asked him to explain how he played better than Yul strategically. Ozzy explains how he played a role in deciding the ultimate fate of the game, by convincing Aitutaki to throw the challenge and vote off Billy. He also mentions he relied on himself and his "surfer dude" personality to get far into the game. Nate moves on to Becky, calling her mob boss and warrior, and asks her why she deserve to win over Yul and Ozzy. Becky said she was lucky to be with who she was aligned with, and talks about how Yul was called the puppet master when they talked about what moved they were going to make together. Nate stresses his question to Becky on if she was the boss, and she said there was no boss since she and Yul were making the decisions together. Becky claims the biggest risk she took was rejecting the idol from Yul because she wanted to earn her way into the top 3.

Jenny was the next to speak; she asked Yul if the physical element or the strategical element is more important in winning the game. Yul answered by saying the game is about social strategy, and it would be different if it was about physical skills. He also says attention was taken away from him by letting Ozzy set himself as a target. Parvati tells Becky she was floored seeing her put herself in a position to make fire against Sundra and decline the idol from Yul, and she asks Becky to convince her that she wants to win. Becky said she wouldn't be able to sit there proud had she accepted the idol, believing she would have cheated her way and didn't want to regret the decisions she made. Rebecca tells Yul and Ozzy she is torn between both of them, for Yul's strategic gameplay and Ozzy's challenge dominance. She asks both of them to tell her something she does not know to help her decide who to vote for. They both talk about how they wanted to be on Survivor to represent minorities, such as Asian-Americans and Mexicans like themselves.

Adam starts by telling the three of them that they, along with Sundra, were boring at tribal council. He asks Ozzy to talk trash about Becky and Yul. He claims Yul did not work as hard as he could, and Becky was riding on coattails and could not make fire after 39 days. Candice asks Yul to only answer yes or no as to whether ot not he has been shamelessly working the jury, and Yul responds with "Yes." Brad asks Ozzy to tell him what the most challenging experience has been in his life how he overcame it. He attributes that to be the relationship he has with his father and how he has never been there for him, despite him loving his family in Mexico, and he gets emotional when talking about it. Sundra asks each of them for the one thing they discovered about themselves, life in general, or from making it to Day 39 on Survivor. Ozzy says there is nothing there except a person's mind, soul, budy, and what they can do with mother nature, cherishing every single moment out there. Becky said she is a person who sets things to a time and a minute, and letting everything go was scary for her at first, but learned how to take a moment for herself and appreciates it more being in the final three. Yul said he found a new self confidence in himself, coming into the game with fears, self doubt, and anxieties, learning to believe in himself. Sundra wraps up by telling the three of them they are beautiful people and wishes them all good luck.

The last juror to speak was Jonathan; he congratulates the final three for playing hard. He asks Yul to explain how telling half truths, which were also half lies, keeps in line with his integrity and good intentions. Yul agrees, admitting he did a lot of deceiving and manipulation, but would never do that to unsuspecting people in the real world. He also mentions staying true to the original people he made alliances with. Jonathan tells Ozzy how talented he is at winning the challenges and do supernatural things, but found him arrogant and entitled, openly expressing his issues with giving someone like Ozzy a million dollars, and asks Ozzy how giving him a million dollars will benefit himself and others. Ozzy said he would go back to school if he won because of how hard it was to go having to poy for himself in the past, and hopes to change the world for the better afterwards.

Afterwards, the jury went to vote. Jonathan voted Yul, who he believed outplayed them all. Parvati voted Ozzy, who she believed to be the ultimate competitor who played his heart out. Ultimately, Yul's social game and overall strategy proved more worthy than Ozzy's dominance in challenges, earning him the title of Sole Survivor in a 5-4-0 vote over Ozzy and Becky respectively.

Challenges[]

Challenge: Compass Ropes
One at a time, the final five must collect eight bags from eight obstacles (mesh tunnel, mesh bridge, disc walk, V tunnel, swing steps, knotted rope bridge, rope swing, and an overhead cargo net), then use the puzzle pieces inside them to build a three-dimensional compass rose puzzle.
Winner: Ozzy Lusth

Challenge: Self-Destruction
The final four will have to stand barefoot on a small, individually-proportioned perch above the water for as long as possible. Every 15 minutes for the first hour, they will pull a rope and release a section of the perch, making it fall. After one hour, a section 'less than half the size of a postcard' will remain.
Winner: Ozzy Lusth

Trivia[]

  • Jeff Probst said that the puzzle used in the Day 37 Immunity Challenge was the hardest puzzle they had used in Survivor history up to that point.
  • Even though the original Rarotonga came into the merge with the most members, Adam Gentry's elimination caused Rarotonga to be the first original tribe to go extinct in Cook Islands.
  • This marks the first time no one in the final four was Caucasian.
  • Out of all four seasons Parvati Shallow competed in, this is the only episode in which she is not an active competitor.
  • This is the first time a season had a Final Three instead of a Final Two at the Final Tribal Council.
    • This is the first time where a finalist received no votes to win.
  • Yul Kwon and Becky Lee are the first and second Asian-Americans to make it to Final Tribal Council.
  • This episode holds the record for the longest time taken to complete a fire-making tiebreaker challenge. Becky went almost two hours before defeating Sundra.
