Joe Dowdle (26)
Hometown: Austin, Texas
Occupation: Real Estate Sales
This 26-year-old southern gentleman and savvy businessman was raised in a single parent household along with his sister. Joe is eternally grateful to his mother for all the sacrifices she made while he was growing up. He currently works in real estate investment sales and enjoys spending his free time strumming his guitar, tossing around a football and hanging out with friends. He is definitely a man who takes pride in hard work and being a Texan.
Joe truly is a genuine Texas Cowboy. After a rigorous selection process in combination with a high GPA from the University of Texas at Austin, he was selected to join the Texas Cowboys, which is a service organization where members act as ambassadors for, according to Joe, "the greatest university in the world," the University of Texas. When he is not working or volunteering his time, Joe enjoys playing basketball and golf in addition to spending time working out and running.
He feels that he will be the next person to win Survivor because he is dedicated, goal oriented and plans to use a strategy he calls "persuade and evade." He intends to constantly look for alliances and win challenges, all while staying just below the radar. He doesn't like overly dramatic people and hates to lose. Unfortunately he may be faced with both in his attempt to become the next Sole Survivor.
Joe Dowdle is single and resides in Austin, Texas. His birthday is June 29.[1]
Survivor[]
Joe was placed on the Jalapao tribe. The tribe did not get many supplies from the raid of the truck. When asked who was the weakest on the tribe, Joe said: "Grammy" (referring to Sandy Burgin). The tribe agreed, almost unanimously. However, instead of sending Sandy home, she was given a helicopter ride to the camp. After a long walk in the hot sun, they arrived at the camp before sundown. Everyone was annoyed that Sandy seemingly didn't do anything, although the tribe quickly put the shelter together. Joe noticed that Sandy was going off by herself to look for a special Hidden Immunity Idol good for the tribe's first Tribal Council only. At the first challenge of the season, Jalapao came close but Timbira came out victorious. After the loss, Carolina Eastwood started bossing people to improve the camp. Joe agreed to vote out Carolina before Sandy. The tribe got flint after Carolina's ouster.
The tribe made fire very quickly. Joe led the tribe to find protein by getting termites. Almost everyone ate the termites and grubs, which surprised them, except Sydney Wheeler. At camp, Taj Johnson-George revealed she was married to Eddie George, leaving almost everyone in awe. At the challenge, Jalapao made a comeback and won immunity and fishing gear. This was the start of a winning streak. Joe led Jalapao to victory in a Reward Challenge for comfort items. Joe and J.T. Thomas were selected to raid Timbira when they won the last Reward Challenge. Unfortunately, Timbira broke the streak by winning immunity. Joe, Sydney, and Spencer Duhm were ready to vote out Sandy, however, J.T., Taj, and Stephen Fishbach discussed whether to vote out Sandy or Sydney. In the end, Sandy was voted out in a 5-1-1 vote. Taj voted against Joe because she didn't want to write Sandy's name down.
At the Reward Challenge, Jalapao won a trip to the Charmin Cafe. Brendan Synnott chose Stephen to be exiled with him. The tribe also received letters from home. At the Reward Challenge, J.T. led the tribe almost single-handedly to victory. However, both Taj and Spencer both performed poorly at the challenge. During the challenge, Joe nicked his knee. Jalapao ultimately lost the challenge. Everyone agreed that Spencer was the weakest and he was voted out. After Spencer's elimination, Sydney was getting nervous. Having become attracted to her, Joe promised her that Taj would go. At the Reward Challenge, Jalapao managed to come from behind, but Timbira won. Timbira chose to exile Joe. He strategically selected Erinn Lobdell to join. Joe hoped to charm her into revealing Timbira's secrets with the goal of flipping her to the Jalapao alliance when the tribes merge. Although Erinn kept quiet about her tribe, she did give him the clue about the idol. When Joe returned, he found the idol at Tree Mail. This was actually a fake idol made by Taj because she had already found the idol. Timbira won immunity, meaning Jalapao was down in numbers at the merge. After the challenge, everyone noticed that Joe's leg was infected. Joe assured Sydney that Taj would go home. J.T. and Stephen talked to Joe about voting out Sydney, something Joe said he could not do. Sydney was voted out in a 3-2 vote.
Everyone was concerned about Joe's leg. Joe said it was getting better, but Taj disagreed. The tribe got Tree Mail that implied a Reward Challenge for a feast. Instead, the tribes merged. Everyone moved to the Timbira camp for the remainder of the game. J.T. named the tribe Forza. Joe and J.T. were targeted for their strength. At the Immunity Challenge, J.T. tried to encouraged Joe to hang on. Joe was unable to do so and was the second person out. Jeff noticed Joe's leg and how bad it looked. After Tyson Apostol won the challenge, the medical team checked out Joe's leg. The medics deemed that the infection could lead to amputation or death if left untreated. Joe was medically evacuated from the game, leaving everyone astonished.
