Kaspersky Security Center automatically maintains an inventory of licenses for Kaspersky applications, including Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows, on all managed devices via the Administration Server. The limit of active license keys may be exceeded if you reinstall the operating system or change the device. In this case, the Administration Server redistributes available licenses and revokes valid keys from devices on the network. To monitor if the licensing limit for active keys is exceeded, configure event notifications about the licensing limit exceeding.
You can transfer the license from the old installation to a new one, including a new device, using these instructions.
Below are the main reasons why the limit of active license keys may be exceeded.
Automatic deletion of inactive objects is not configured
- Generate a Report on usage of license keys.
- Configure the report filtering and filter by the column Last connected to Administration Server to identify inactive devices that have not been interacting with the Administration Server for a long time.
- Check the identified devices, perhaps they are no longer in use, or the OS has been reinstalled on them.
- Configure automatic deletion of inactive objects and, if possible, eliminate the cause of their occurrence in the list using these instructions.
The devices with inactive licenses are stored in the Unassigned devices group
- Generate Report on usage of license keys.
At the step of selecting the report type, choose I want to create a report for a selection of devices and specify all the unassigned devices.
- Move used devices with an active license from the Unassigned devices group to Managed devices.
- Remove the valid license from unused devices and from the devices that do not require anti-virus protection.
Devices from other administration networks are connected
- Search for all managed devices.
- Find the devices connected to the Administration Server from another service zone, e.g. devices from another organization and their assigned license.
Pay attention to the IP addresses and device names, the connection IP address and Windows domain. - Switch the found devices to the appropriate Administration Server using the Change Administration Server task.
After the devices are switched from the current Administration Server, the licenses assigned to them will be released. - If necessary, initiate an unscheduled count of active licenses using these instructions.
Distribution of keys is not configured
- Make sure that all available licenses for the selected application have been distributed for endpoint protection.
- If necessary, activate the application using these instructions in the most convenient way for you.
The number of acquired licenses is not enough
- Count your devices and compare their number with the licensing limit.
If the total number of units covered by the license is reached, and no extra devices may be covered, the licensing limit will be exceeded whenever a duplicate device occurs.
- If you do not have enough licenses, we recommend to purchase additional ones.
What to do if the issue persists
If the issue persists, collect diagnostic data and submit a request to Kaspersky Technical Support via Kaspersky CompanyAccount. In addition to the requested information, attach reports on license key usage from all the Administration Servers with the full device list by groups: Managed devices and Unassigned devices. In the report settings, clear the filters and uncheck the limit on the number of devices displayed in the report.
