Google Password Manager makes it simple to use a strong, unique password for all your online accounts. When you use Google Password Manager, you can save passwords in your Google Account or on your device.
Important: Google Password Manager will only suggest strong passwords when saving passwords to your Google Account.

A safer way to manage your passwords
Stolen passwords are one of the most common ways that accounts are compromised.
To help protect your accounts, you can use Google Password Manager to:
- Suggest strong, unique passwords and save them in your Google Account, to avoid multiple account compromises from a single stolen password.
- Notify you about compromised passwords. If someone publishes your saved passwords on the internet, Google Password Manager can help you change any compromised passwords.
- Help block unauthorized access. Your passwords are stored behind Googleâs built-in security using encryption.
Tip: To add more security to your saved passwords, you can add recovery info and turn on 2-Step Verification.

Important: These steps may vary on your device. You can also search your settings app for âautofill serviceâ to go to this setting directly.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Settings app.
- Scroll down and tap Google All services.
- Scroll down to the section "Auto fill & Passwords" and tap Autofill with Google.
- Make sure Use Autofill with Google is turned on.
- Confirm that the account listed under "Account" is the one you want to use.
Tip: Signing in to Chrome and Android with the same Google Account ensures youâll always have access to your saved passwords.
Create & save strong passwords
When you create a new account on an app, Android can suggest and save a strong password.
- On your Android phone or tablet, tap the password creation field.
- Just above the keyboard, tap Passwords Generate Password and save to your Google Account.
- Complete your username and click Save password.
Sign in with a saved password
If you saved your password for an app previously, Android can help you sign in.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the app you want to sign in to. You might need to go to the appâs sign-in page.
- Tap the username field and select or type your username.
- Tap the password field.
- Above the keyboard, on the right, tap Passwords Pick a saved password.
- If Passwords doesnât appear, press and hold the password field. Then, tap Autofill Pick a saved password.
- Tap the name of the app you want to sign in to.
Use passkeys with a trusted browser
- To sign in to or sign up with websites using a passkey, your browser needs to handle your passkey credentials to work with Google Password Manager. Always use a secure browser that you trust.
- If you canât access passkeys stored in Google Password Manager from your browser, it might be because your browser hasnât been approved as a trusted browser yet.

- If you develop a browser app that hasnât been approved, you can submit a request to become a trusted browser app for Google Password Manager. To submit a request, fill out this form.
Create & save strong passwords
When you create a new account on a site, Chrome can suggest a strong, unique password. If you use a suggested password, itâs automatically saved.
If you enter a new password on a site, Chrome can ask to save it. To accept, click Save.
- To view the password that was entered: Select Preview .
- If there are multiple passwords on the page: Select Down . Choose the password you want saved.
- If your username is blank or incorrect: Select the text box next to "Username." Enter the username you want saved.
- If you want to save a different password: Select the text box next to "Password." Enter the password you want saved.
If Chrome doesnât offer to save your passwords
Save your password if you aren't asked to automatically
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app .
- Enter your info on the website you want to save the password for.
- To the right of the address bar, click Passwords Save.
If you don't see Passwords , delete your password and try to sign in again.
Start or stop saving passwords
By default, Chrome offers to save your password. You can turn password saving on or off in your Google Account or in Chrome:
- On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app .
- At the top right, tap More .
- Tap Settings Google Password Manager.
- Tap Settings .
- Turn Offer to Save Passwords on or off.
Sign in with a saved password
If you saved your password on a previous visit to a website, Chrome can help you sign in.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Chrome .
- Go to a site you've visited before.
- Go to the siteâs sign-in form.
- If youâve saved a single username and password for the site: Chrome can fill in the sign-in form automatically.
- If youâve saved more than one username and password: Select the username field and choose the sign-in info you want to use.
- If Chrome doesn't offer your saved password: Tap Passwords to view possible passwords.
Tip: To get to Google Password Manager faster, go to your password manager setting and add a shortcut to your home screen.
Manage & secure your passwords
Find, delete, or export saved passwordsTo find the list of accounts with saved passwords, you can go to passwords.google.com or view your passwords in the Google Password Manager on your device.
- To find a password: Select an account, then tap Preview .
- To delete a password: Select an account, then tap Delete.
- To export your passwords: Tap Settings Export passwords.
Important:
- You can only share your password with a member of your family group. Create a family group.
- Use Google Password Manager and update Google Chrome.
By default, Chrome offers to save your password. You can turn this option off or on at any time.
- On your Android device, open Chrome .
- At the top right, tap More .
- Tap Settings Google Password Manager.
- At the bottom right, tap Settings .
- Turn Offer to save passwords on or off.
Tips:
- Use unique passwords for all your online accounts.
- If you use the same password for multiple accounts, anyone you share a password with may be able to access your other accounts.
- If you no longer want to share this service, change your password.
You can check all your saved passwords at once to find out if they are:
- Published on the internet
- Exposed in a data breach
- Potentially weak and easy to guess
- Used on multiple accounts
To check your saved passwords, go to Password Checkup.
- Go to passwords.google.com.
- In the top right, select Settings .
- From here you can manage your settings.
- Offer to save passwords: Manage offers to save passwords in Android and Chrome.
- Manage offers to passwords for specific sites or apps: You can choose to never save passwords for specific sites. When you're prompted to save a password, select Never.If you decide later to save this password, select Remove next to the name of the site or app.
- Auto sign-in: You can automatically sign in to sites and apps using info youâve saved. You can turn Auto sign-in off if you want to provide confirmation before signing in.
- Password alerts: You can get notified when your saved passwords are found online.
- On-device encryption: Encrypt your passwords on your device before they're saved to Google Password Manager. Learn how to encrypt your passwords on your device. This feature isn't available for Workspace users.
How Google Password Manager handles your data
