The Training Process
The training programs at Stayyy focus on eliminating problem habits and replacing them with good habits. The first step is teaching your dog the basic commands they need to know and then drilling them. It’s important for your puppy or adult dog to know these commands and listen each time.
We also focus on:
· Breaking bad habits
· Exercise
· Socialization
· Mental stimulation
We approach certain behaviors your dog should not be engaging in head-on. Some of the bad habits we address at Stayyy include:
· Leash pulling
· Stealing food from other animals
· Jumping up on people
· Excessive barking
· Rushing in or out the door
· Charging at other animals
· Eating off the counter
Socialization is an extremely important part of dog training. Your dog needs to be safe around other dogs and people. We make sure to socialize your dog during training. We offer a lot of opportunities for your pup to learn how to be a better pack member and socialize with others.
DAY CAMP
If your pup needs to learn the fundamentals of obedience and receive basic training, Stayyy’s Day Camp is the perfect place for them to learn while having fun. Our trainers will work closely with your pup while they are visiting our Day Camp facility. All you have to do is let us know when you would like to drop your pup off and when you’d like to pick them up (during our business hours). We’ll take it from there. If you’d like, feel free to drop off your pup for the whole day! Our training hours are flexible.
If your dog has any special needs, let us know. Our expert trainers are able to work with dogs that have all kinds of special needs.
Once it’s time to come by and pick your dog up, we’ll make sure to send them off with some extra goodies. From there, you can continue to work with your pup once you get home.
Leadership Program
One of the most important parts of dog ownership is leadership. Your dog needs to understand that you are the pack leader, and they need to know where they fall in the pack. This will help to keep them mentally and emotionally balanced. If you don’t show proper leadership, your dog will fight you over the pack leader position. Our leadership program is designed to help you become the leader of your pack.
Board & Train
Some dogs need a little extra love and attention during training. For dogs with more advanced behavioral issues, there is our Board and Train program.
There is no such thing as a “problem breed” or even a “bad dog.” All dogs can be trained, and behaviors can be addressed. Aggression isn’t a breed problem—it’s a behavioral problem. As it is learned, it can be unlearned. With that said, aggression issues and other advanced behavioral issues can take time to address. With our Board and Train program, your dog stays with us for a little while. During this time, we address aggression, moodiness, and other problem behaviors. Our training is intensive but also caring.
No matter what your dog’s age, breed, size, or gender is, our top trainers can work with them to address problem behaviors.
Obedience
Obedience training is one of the most important parts of dog ownership. It is extremely important for your dog to know their basic commands and respond to them every time. Obedience problems can be anywhere from annoying to dangerous. Your dog may eat off the counter, pee on the rug, jump up on people, attack other dogs, run out the door, bite someone, or even bite you! If they run outside, they can get hit by a car. If they attack a person or another dog, you can get sued and they can get put down. It’s imperative to the safety of others, your dog, and you for your dog to be properly trained.
No matter what training program your pup undergoes at Stayyy, we start with obedience as the foundation. After that, specific issues can be addressed. With that said, obedience training often gets rid of problem issues on its own.
Group Classes
After we’ve ensured your pup is trained on the basics of obedience and knows their commands, we will allow them to join our group classes. Here, they are exposed to a controlled and well-monitored environment where they are encouraged to socialize with others. We continue to increase the level of distraction over time to note your dog’s improvement. It’s our goal to make sure your pup is friendly and well-trained. We heavily encourage socialization for puppies, but we also offer socialization for adult dogs.
Our group classes are available at our dog training centers, along with different dog beaches, parks, and other pup-friendly venues. This way your dog is able to interact with a variety of different outside environments.
What to Know About Dog Boarding
Dog boarding is often stressful for owners. It doesn’t have to be with Stayyy! Whether you are going out of town, or you will be otherwise unavailable, we can watch your dog and make sure they are having a ton of fun while you are away. We give the pups we board lots of opportunities for play, socialization, and exercise.
It’s very important for your dog to stretch their legs and go outside during boarding. That’s why we take dogs we board on daily walks where they can go potty, sniff around, and enjoy some sunshine. As each dog has their own unique needs, we tailor the walks we provide to meet the needs of every pup.
In order to board your pup, we’ll need current vaccination records and written proof of DHLPP and Bordetella before check-in. If your pup is over four months old, we’ll also need rabies vaccination records. This is for the protection of our staff and our other furry guests.
Some things you’ll want to consider when preparing for your pup’s vacation include:
· A feeding schedule
· Blankets and toys your dog loves
· Bedding
· Kennel crate (if trained)
· Dog food and treats
We look forward to hosting your pup in our doggy hotel!
What does it mean to be a Pack Leader?
Some dog owners don’t fully understand what being a “pack leader” is. Others understand the concept but don’t like the idea of a leader-follower relationship. Instead, they want to see their dog as an equal. The issue is dogs don’t see things the same way. They aren’t humans. If they don’t see you as the pack leader, they will take over the position. You need to show leadership qualities for your dog to listen and take commands.
This doesn’t mean you have to be a bully. Instead, you can look at the pack relationship as one that is similar to a parent and child. You provide your pup with guidance, set boundaries, and encourage good behaviors. If you show confidence and project positive energy, your dog will be much more likely to listen.
If you want to ensure there is harmony in your household, establish yourself as the pack leader. It’s never too late! Even with an adult dog, you can take the leadership position—as long as you are showing the leadership qualities that dogs respect.
