An upcoming live-action Star Wars film is planned to be released on December 17, 2027.[1] On May 7, 2019, Disney revealed their future movie release schedule, including a set of three untitled Star Wars films, one of which had a scheduled release date of December 18, 2026.[2] The Star Wars Show also reported on the news on May 15.[3] On July 23, 2020, after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was delayed to December 17, 2027.[1]
After the start of the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, Disney published a new film release schedule, which did not mention this film.[4] In the 2024 Q3 Earnings Presentation on August 7, Disney confirmed its commitment to releasing The Mandalorian and Grogu and a second film in 2026, along with a third film in 2027.[5]
