- "I remember what it was like before your ships showed up, before you Imperials ruined Lothal like the rest of the galaxy."
- ―Yoffar
Marking the start of what would be an occupation, the Galactic Empire's takeover of the Outer Rim planet Lothal occured soon after the Clone Wars and the establishment of the Empire when Lothal's government petitioned for aid and support. After the Imperial survey team discovered starship-manufacturing minerals beneath the surface, factories and mining facilities were dispatched within a week, along with a major garrison. Almost overnight, entire sectors of Capital City were emptied to pave the way for Imperial structures, and the citizens of Lothal responded with mass protests, resulting in mass arrests and crackdowns. Lothal's planetary government was pushed aside while an Imperial governorship was established.[1]

- ↑ Star Wars: Timelines dates Adventures in Wild Space: The Steal, during which Ryder Azadi was the Imperial Governor of the Lothal sector, to 18 BBY. Timelines further dates the founding of the Empire to 19 BBY. Since the position was established after the takeover according to Nexus of Power and Dawn of Rebellion, and must also occur after the Empire was founded, the takeover must have started between those two dates.
