A shaman, also known as a medicine man,[5] was a member of certain traditional societies who acted as a medium between the physical world and an invisible spirit world and who practiced "magic."[6] Among the Ewoks of Endor, the rituals performed by the shamans like Logray were meant to ensure their tribes remained in harmony with the forest spirits.[7] The Nightsisters of Dathomir also had their shamans.[1]
A'Yark's tribe of Tusken Raiders believed Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi,[8] who lived within the Western Dune Sea and remained on the planet Tatooine as part of his exile,[1] was a shaman who lurked in the canyons. Eventually, the young Tusken A'Koba decided the tribe needed to marshal its members together to finally hunt down the supposed shaman,[8] unaware of how he was leaving the planet with Luke Skywalker during the same time.[9]
