- "Four on one is hardly a fair fight, even for a Jedi."
- ―Rumi Paramita
Rumi Paramita was a female Frenk and a member of Sugi's band of bounty hunters that were active during the Clone Wars. During the war, she assisted in the defense of Casiss' farm against Hondo Ohnaka's pirate gang. She was killed by a cannon blast fired by Pikk Mukmuk from Hondo's tank.
Biography[]
- "I seem to find myself light on company."
- ―Sugi, after Paramita's death
In 22 BBY,[2] Rumi Paramita was a member of Sugi's group of bounty hunters when Casiss hired them to protect his farm against raids by the Ohnaka Gang. She was present when Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker came to the planet, and viewing them as a threat to her clients, was the first to sneak up on them and point her rifle at the Jedi. After some deliberation, however, the Jedi convinced the bounty hunters and their clients that they were not in league with the pirates. However, they made it clear that they couldn't help the village farmers.[3]
The Weequay pirates attacked on speeder bikes shortly afterward, and Kenobi was surprised to find that his prior acquaintance, Hondo Ohnaka, was the leader of the pirate gang. Reneging on their prior decision, the Jedi agreed to help the farmers by teaching them to defend themselves against the next raid. Paramita was not only instrumental in helping the villagers learn to fight, but also assisted with the harvest.
When the second attack came, Paramita was positioned on top of a building, giving her a clear line of fire to act as a sniper. During Ohnaka's duel with Skywalker, his pet, Pikk Mukmuk, fired the cannon of Ohnaka's WLO-5 speeder tank at Paramita, blasting her off the roof and killing her.[4][3]
Skills and abilities[]
Rumi was an expert sniper, being able to shoot a man off a fast-moving speeder bike. Her primary weapon was the IQA-11 blaster rifle, though she carried a small blaster pistol as a back-up. She used her sniper skills to great effect in the skirmish on Felucia, killing a pirate on a speeder bike with a single shot. When Pikk Mukmuk fired a cannon blast at her, she attempted to make a run for it but was not swift enough and was killed by the blast.
Behind the scenes[]
Paramita was voiced in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series episode "Bounty Hunters" by Anna Graves, who also lent her voice to Sugi and Satine Kryze. Although her death was not made explicit in the episode, it was confirmed by series director Dave Filoni in a video on the official Star Wars site.[4]
"Pāramitā" is a word meaning "perfection" or "completeness" in Sanskrit. In Buddhism, the pāramitās are the perfection of certain virtues by an individual as a means of purifying karma on the way to enlightenment.[5]
