- "I need you to convince the Senate, or the Jedi Council, or whoever is in charge of this terrible war that we are threatened."
- ―Queen Neeyutnee, to Padmé Amidala
Neeyutnee was a human female who served as the Queen of Naboo for much of the Clone Wars. After being elected as the successor to Queen Jamillia, she led her people through the Blue Shadow Virus crisis and other incidents.
Biography[]
Blue Shadow Virus[]
Neeyutnee was born on Naboo prior to the Clone Wars.[1] When the war began in 22 BBY,[4] Neeyutnee was elected as the Queen of Naboo, succeeding Queen Jamillia. She relied on insight and experience offered by Senator Padmé Amidala.[2] In 21 BBY,[4] several Separatist droids infiltrated Naboo. After this discovery, Naboo was placed on high alert, fearing another invasion. Because of this, Amidala and Junior Representative Jar Jar Binks returned to Naboo from Coruscant to assist in investigating the enemy presence. When they arrived, Neeyutnee and Captain Typho greeted them in the Theed Hangar at the Royal Palace. Neeyutnee told Amidala that they had not located any more droids but were certain that there was danger. She told Amidala to convince the Galactic Senate or the Jedi High Council that Naboo was threatened. Amidala informed her that neither group would be convinced without proof, prompting them to continue inspecting a captured tactical droid.[1]
While Neeyutne, Typho, and Amidala continued their discussion, Binks spotted an insect coming out of another battle droid and tried to get it as it was only found in the Eastern swamps. Neeyutnee listened as Amidala's protocol droid, C-3PO, interrogated the tactical droid, TR-350, before Binks inadvertently destroyed it during his chase of the insect. Binks sheepishly apologized, explaining that the insect was rare and only found in one location. From that, they were able to deduce that the droids likely came out of the Eastern swamps. They contacted the Jedi Council and informed them of what they discovered, with Amidala convincing them to send Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi, Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano to assist. Eventually, it was discovered that the scientist Dr. Nuvo Vindi was trying to revive the Blue Shadow Virus in a secret laboratory.[1] Vindi was defeated by the Republic and the virus was stopped.[5]
Skirmish on Naboo[]
In 20 BBY,[4] Naboo was again a target for the Separatists, with rumors circulating that the Gungans were aiding General Grievous in an invasion the planet. Amidala was sent to investigate along with Skywalker, and they eventually came to discover that the Gungan Rish Loo was in fact aiding the Separatists. Meanwhile, as Grievous battled the Gungan Army, he was captured after a brief skirmish. As Skywalker pursued Loo, he was also captured. Amidala and Separatist leader Count Dooku agreed to a prisoner exchange, which Neeyutnee led. She witnessed the Separatists arrive in a shuttle with Skywalker. After the exchange, Neeyutnee and Boss Lyonie thanked Binks for preventing war against the Naboo and the Gungans a second time.[6]
Skirmish on Theed[]
Later, Neeyutnee greeted Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to Naboo for the Festival of Light which celebrated the anniversary of when Naboo joined the Republic. That night, bounty hunters led by Count Dooku and Cad Bane attempted to capture Palpatine, but their plan was thwarted by Kenobi, who had been disguised as the bounty hunter Rako Hardeen and was operating as an inside man. The next morning, Neeyutnee was part of a protection group consisting of Amidala and Governor Sio Bibble.[7] Neeyutnee was succeeded by Queen Apailana by 19 BBY.[8]
Legacy[]
In 4 ABY, Queen Sosha Soruna mentioned Neeyutnee's decision to move the fighter operations out of the palace for security measures during the Clone Wars to Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan when the Galactic Empire attacked Naboo as part of Operation: Cinder.[9]
Personality and traits[]
Neeyutnee was a 1.69 meters (5 feet, 7 inches)[3] human[1] female,[2] with black hair, brown eyes, and light skin.[2] Like other queens of Naboo, she wore makeup with the scar of remembrance. Neeyutnee considered the Clone Wars as being "terrible."[1] She was kind as she thanked Jar Jar Binks for preventing a civil war between the Gungans and the Naboo.[6] She spoke Galactic Basic Standard in an accent.[1]
Skills and abilities[]
Neeyutnee was an accomplished leader of the Naboo, reigning as her people's queen for much of the Clone War. During her tenure as queen, she also proved to be effective at diplomacy, negotiations and had vast legislative knowledge. Neeyutnee worked closely with Senator Amidala and Representative Binks, as well as Gungan and her Royal Advisory Council. Neeyutnee was also effective in armed and unarmed combat.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
Neeyutnee was voiced by Jameelah McMillan in her debut for the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode "Blue Shadow Virus."[1] She had a non-speaking role in the episode "Crisis on Naboo."[7]
