"Samples of the flora and fauna were collected and taken to the Emperor's private and public gardens and may be available for study at the Imperial Zoological Gardens on Kailor V."
―Imperial Survey Corps report[1]

The Imperial Zoological Gardens were a facility located on Kailor V,[1] a planet[2] in the Arrowhead portion of the Core Worlds.[3] Established on the authority of Emperor Palpatine[4] of the Galactic Empire,[1] they featured a beautiful display of fauna and flora from across the galaxy.[4] The facility included various aquaria,[2] with members of the Sedrian Shahlik family being charged with their maintenance.[5] When the Empire surveyed the[1] Outer Rim Territories[6] planet Najarka years before the Battle of Yavin, it collected samples of the world's plants and creatures, which were subsequently made available for study at the Imperial Zoological Gardens—a fact that was noted in a publicly accessible Imperial Survey Corps planetary report.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Imperial Zoological Gardens were introduced in The Abduction, a 1992 roleplaying adventure authored by Chuck Truett and published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[1] The 1994 Second Edition of West End Games' roleplaying sourcebook Galaxy Guide 4: Alien Races mentioned "Imperial aquaria" on Kailor V,[5] which 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia subsequently confirmed as part of the Imperial Zoological Gardens.[2]
