High Lord (feminine High Lady) was the title of the head of one of the noble houses of the Tapani sector. Originally, the heads of the Houses were kings of feuding states, until Shey Tapani, High Lord of House Melantha, became Emperor of the Tapani sector, and the kings became High Lords.
