"Hello, Sirs. I presume you speak Geonosian hive-mind? A language I am more than fluent in!"
―0-0-0[1]

Geonosian hive-mind,[1] also referred to as Geonosian,[4] was the language spoken by the Geonosians, the semi-insectoid species native to the planet Geonosis.[2] Both the protocol droid 0-0-0[1] and Orson Krennic could speak it.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

The Geonosian language first appeared in the 2002 film Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, the second installment of the Star Wars prequel trilogy.[2] It was first identified as Geonosian by "Brain Invaders," the eighth episode of the second season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series,[5] which was released on December 4, 2009.[6] The language was first identified as Geonosian hive-mind by the 2015 comic book Darth Vader 4.[1]

The Geonosian language that was known as "Geonosian hive-mind" was created from three sounds recorded by Matthew Wood under the direction of Ben Burtt while in Australia. In the city of Melbourne, Wood recorded the mating cries of penguins at a reserve. In the city of Cairns, Wood recorded a group of fruit bats fighting over a banana. While still in Australia, Wood also recorded the sounds of flying foxes. Burtt mixed all of these sounds and created the Geonosian language.[7][8]
