Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a Nickelodeon crossover fighting game. It was released digitally on November 7, 2023 and on December 1, 2023 physically in North America for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch and PC.[1][2][3][4][5][6] This is the sequel to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.
SpongeBob and Patrick return from the previous game. New characters include Squidward, Plankton (with Karen as part of his robotic suit), and Mr. Krabs as a DLC character.
Plot[]
One day, SpongeBob was teaching Patrick how to blow bubbles when a star-shaped portal suddenly appeared and sucked Patrick in. Another portal then appears, and a disembodied voice tells SpongeBob to go through the portal if he wants to save his friend. After jumping in, SpongeBob fights a wave of mind-controlled enemies in a different world before meeting GIR, one of the power-up givers. After fighting through another wave of enemies, SpongeBob finds Patrick, but the latter attacks him, forcing SpongeBob to defeat Patrick. After that, SpongeBob encountered Powdered Toast Man, one of the power-up vendors. After fighting another hero (either Aang, April O'Neil or Jenny Wakeman), SpongeBob faces and defeats King Jellyfish. Shortly after, a portal appears, revealing Vlad Plasmius, who expresses his surprise as to how SpongeBob didn't fall under his mind-control before knocking him out of the stage.
Suddenly, time has been rewinded, and SpongeBob is brought to a pocket dimension called the Timeless Stardial and is reunited with Patrick and the hero he saved, both back to their normal self. The group then meets Clockwork, who tells them that Vlad Plasmius plans to mind-control everyone in the universe and that they must stop him. He also gives them a time medallion in case they fall in combat. The group also encounters other individuals that have been brought into the Timeless Stardial to help the heroes, such as Nora Wakeman, Splinter, Gary, and Gaz Membrane.
After jumping through multiple worlds while fighting enemies, mind-controlled heroes, and bosses (such as the Flying Dutchman, Shredder and Sartana of the Dead.) The group finds Vlad and manages to beat him, only for Vlad to reveal that they only defeated a clone of himself. The clone then disappeared before the whole stage exploded. The heroes are, however, saved thanks to Clockwork, who rewinds time and brings them back to the Timeless Stardial. There, he reveals that the explosion was due to the failure of Vlad's plan and how it could lead to the destruction of the universe. He then explains to the heroes that he intentionally led them to the decoy as a test in order to see if they were ready to fight the real Vlad.
After once again fighting their way through different dimensions, the group confronts the real Vlad. After a fierce battle, the heroes manage to subdue him. However, as a last ditch, Vlad suddenly ordered his computer to activate the Overhaul Protocol in the hope he could control everyone's minds in the universe. The machine malfunctioned, leading to the destruction of the universe. The heroes are then once again saved by Clockwork's power. Back to the Timeless Stardial, Clockwork tells them that they must stop Vlad from activating the machine and to talk to Nora who explains that she created an energy dampener in order to disable Vlad's machine.
After traveling through another wave of worlds, the group encounters Vlad for the third time and disables his machine before he can activate it. Vlad is then defeated again and brought to the Timeless Stardial by Clockwork before the destruction of the universe happens again. Returning to the Timeless Stardial, the heroes found out that Clockwork was nowhere to be seen. After interrogating Vlad, who reveals that he's been trapped here since the beginning, much like everyone else, the heroes are then gathered by Splinter, Nora, and Gary in order to discuss their next steps. Splinter confesses that Vlad may be right and that Clockwork has no intention of sending them back home and tell the heroes to confront him. Nora then manages to track down Clockwork's location using the Time Medallion.
After going through some worlds, the heroes find Clockwork, this time with a pink aura surrounding him, revealing that he's under the influence of Vlad's machine. Clockwork initially threatens the heroes but then manages to fight the effect for a short period of time. He warns the group that they must weaken him enough in order to free him from his mind-control before his alter-ego took over him once and for all.
After tracking him down to his lair, the corrupted Clockwork explains to the heroes that Vlad's mind-control device had two flaws, the first one being and that it didn't control minds but simply replaced them with a more aggressive personality that had no loyalty to Vlad. It's second flaw was that no matter the situation, the machine would always blow up, triggering the destruction of the universe, something that the "evil" Clockwork plans to rewind over and over again. Despite weakening Clockwork enough, he manages to freeze the heroes and rewind time in order to regain his strength. Suddenly, a mysterious green orb emerges from a portal and is absorbed by the heroes, who manage to defeat Clockwork and free him from Vlad's machine. Clockwork then rewinds time before the universe is destroyed again and brings the group back to the Timeless Stardial.
Back in safety, Clockwork explains to the heroes that his corrupted mind was the result of him being exposed to Vlad's machine while previously trying to destroy it and that his "evil" self took joy in rewinding time each time the machine was being destroyed. He then congratulates the heroes and summons a portal to bring them back to their homes. Before they left, Clockwork told them that the Time Medallion had to stay in the Timeless Stardial and that their memories would be erased to make sure these events never happens again.
Gameplay[]
Like the previous game, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is a platform fighter featuring characters from various Nickelodeon franchises. Gameplay has been updated from the previous entry, with all movesets having been revised and given new horizontal attacks, and new mechanics being added such as aerial dodging and dodge rolling. During gameplay, a new "Slime Meter" can be built up by attacking opponents and used in different ways, such as powering up special attacks, performing attack cancels, and activating powerful character-specific "Super" abilities. Certain stages have been updated to feature selectable alternate layouts. A new single-player campaign has been added, in which players must stop Vlad Plasmius from conquering the multiverse. The campaign features roguelike mechanics, boss battles, and character-specific story routes. The game also features a refined arcade mode, along with new mini-games and modes such as a boss rush. In addition, support for cross-platform play has been added to the game's online multiplayer.

Unused content[]
The game's logo went through several revisions before the final logo was decided. One of the oldest versions of the logo reveals the original codename for the game was Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2023.[15] Multiple press articles and store listings mention a minigame called "Irken Armada Bootcamp Survival" that is missing in the final game. It is unknown if it was scrapped or if it will be added in a future update.[16][17]
Similarly to the first game, many unused announcer calls for unreleased characters exist, including characters such as Pearl Krabs, Gary the Snail, Abrasive Sponge, Patrick Not-Star, Squilliam Fancyson, and Bubble Bass.[18]
Reception[]
Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 has received "mixed or average reviews" on all platforms according to review aggregator websites Metacritic and OpenCritic.[19][20] Reviewers praised the game as an overall improvement over its predecessor, though the game's performance was criticized, particularly for the Nintendo Switch version.

Trivia[]
Leaks[]
- This video game's existence was first confirmed through a 4chan thread in December 2022.[21] Three screenshots were shared, which showcase Danny's new model, one of Patrick's new abilities, and Squidward himself.
- This also makes this the first time a Nickelodeon-based video game by GameMill Entertainment that was not first leaked on retail sites.
- On June 26, 2023, cropped-out parts of a supposedly early version of the cover art for the game, along with a screenshot of Danny holding a sword were leaked on Twitter.[22]
- Another cover art was shared on Twitter on July 22, 2023, five days before the game's official announcement.[23]
- Five days after the game's official reveal trailer on August 1, 2023, an expanded version of the game's cover art was leaked by an Amazon UK listing which featured many newcomers that had not yet been officially revealed elsewhere at the time, including Plankton.[24][25][26][27][28][29] The image in an Amazon UK listing was quickly deleted, but not fast enough apparently as the image was widely spread across Reddit, Twitter, and the ResetEra forum.
- Additionally, Donatello is the only new fighter who was not leaked.
- Throughout September 2023, multiple things leaked from this game such as renders, screenshots and informations about the single-player campaign. All of these were leaked on the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Subreddit and official Discord server.
- On October 2, 2023, the game was accidentally livestreamed by Twitch streamer "TKbreezy" for around 30 minutes before being taken down.[30][31][32][33] Despite deleting the original stream, fans were quick enough to record the entire gameplay and share the new information it revealed online. As a result from all of this, all leaks discussions were banned from the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Subreddit[34] and official Discord server.
- Throughout October 2023, various DLC content, character renders, music and gameplay have been leaked by various people through a early build of the game.
- A fully playable Mr. Krabs was accidentally added to Update 1.4 and can be accessed by modifying the game files. Renders for the three other DLC characters were also added to the update.[35][36][37][38]
- Voice lines for Rocksteady, Iroh and Zuko have been accidentally added to Update 1.6.
- A fully playable Zuko was accidentally released exclusively on the Xbox Series X and Series S version on April 4, 2024, but was quickly removed.[39]

- Originally scheduled to release on October 24, 2023.[40][41][42][43]
- Scheduled to release on November 14, 2023.[44][45][46]
- Scheduled to release on November 3, 2023.[47][48][49][50][51][52]
- At the end of Azula's spotlight video, the VO says the game would be released on this day, despite the video being uploaded after the delay occurred.
- Scheduled to release on November 7, 2023 digitally and on December 1, 2023 physically.[1][2][3][4][5][6]
- The Mr. Krabs' DLC was originally set to be released on January 31, 2024, but it instead got delayed and was scheduled to release on February 29, 2024. However, the date was changed again and the DLC was released on February 15, 2024.[53][54][55][56][57][58]
- There are two Nintendo Switch physical releases of this game:
- According to the art director, Diego Rodriguez, 98% of the game has been built up entirely from scratch compared to the first game.[71]
- This game marks the first time a Nickelodeon game with online functionality has crossplay between all consoles.
- The original Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was planned to have this feature added in an update, but it was eventually cancelled due to issues with rights handling.[citation needed]
- This game marks the first time Mr. Krabs becomes a playable character for a crossover game.
- Despite being playable in a future DLC, Mr. Krabs also appears on the background of the Bun Wrestling Ring stage.
- One of the weapons Zim uses in his moveset is the Plunger of Doom from SpongeBob SquarePants featuring Nicktoons: Globs of Doom.
- This is the first time a game from the Nicktoons Unite! series has been referenced since 2008.
- This game was nominated for Best Fighting Game for The Game Awards 2023.[72]

- This error also occurs in Patrick's spotlight video.
- In Patrick's spotlight video during his super, most of Squidward's house uses the texture as SpongeBob's house in the background for texturing mistakes.
- In the campaign, some of the captions spell SpongeBob's name incorrectly, with the first "B" in his name being uncapitalized.
- When SpongeBob is talking with Mrs. Puff in the campaign mode, for a split second, Mrs. Puff's eyelashes disappear from her eyes and reappear when she blinks.
