For cocktail receptions or seated formal dinners, there’s a room for you
Dalida
Dalida already has views of the Presidio and the water to dazzle guests before dinner, but the private dining room will also give guests a sense of the outdoors throughout their meal. With hand-painted wallpaper from Oakland artist Emily Parkinson, the room veers into garden territory with florals climbing up the walls. Really, the top-tier restaurant from chefs Laura and Sayat Ozyilmaz is worth visiting for decadent dishes including a lovely slow-cooked lamb. For pricing and availability, visit the Dalida website.
China Live
Considering how massive China Live is — encompassing two restaurants, a bar, and a market all in one building — it’s perhaps no surprise that there are handful of options for hosting private events. The Gold Mountain Lounge is a smaller private dining space, while Space*88 on the third floor can host truly giant events with up to 825 guests. For pricing and more details, check the China Live website.

Officina
The team behind Michelin-starred Quince has leaned into private dining spaces, outfitting their restaurants Quince, Cotogna, and newly reopened Verjus with beautiful rentable spaces, but the standout is their private space, Officina. Located one floor above North Beach favorite Vesuvio Cafe, the space gives dinner party vibes at your chef friend’s fancy apartment. For more information on how to rent out this lesser-known PDF, email [email protected].
Moongate Lounge
The back half of Moongate Lounge also serves as its private dining room dubbed Double Happiness, and with it comes gorgeous overhead views of Grant Avenue with its gently swaying lanterns. Book a family-style three-course dinner with dessert — with Mister Jiu’s legendary roast duck available as an option, if desired. For more information, head to misterjius.com/events.
Boulevard
Boulevard’s Wine Vault can house up to 12 guests for a fully private meal with a highly adaptable set price menu consisting of three courses or more. It’s a truly unique space, designed by none other than Ken Fulk, with dark wallpaper and rich gold accents. Diners sit among walls lined with bottles of wine. To book an event, reach out through the restaurant website.

The Vault Garden
The Vault Garden hosts groups inside covered and heated tents with views of the massive outdoor space. Semi-private and private setups are available for up to 60 guests. The menu remains meaty with options including seared scallops, roasted chicken, and steak frites. Learn more on the restaurant’s website.
Starlite
It’s easy to see why Starlite is an easy slam dunk in terms of gorgeous private dining room spaces. With windows that look out onto Union Square from the 21st floor, paired with rooms swathed in luxe deep green velvet furniture to lounge on, it’s a win in a lot of ways. The Starlite team has managed to parse out four rentable spaces at the storied bar with different capacities, perfect for when you’re looking for a cocktail hour with bites, rather than a sit-down dinner. There are even fun add-ons, such as a Dirty 90s Martini Fountain. For more information, email [email protected].
Nari
Located at the Hotel Kabuki in Japantown, Nari serves a sophisticated menu of Thai cuisine that’s punctuated with bright, bold flavors from chef Pim Techamuanvivit. The restaurant’s main dining room is lush and dripping with plants, but the private dining space is a peaceful oasis with a bank of windows and cool blue walls. Nari can be reserved for parties up to 24.
Copra
The beautiful macrame- and plant-laden space at Copra naturally lends itself to an elegant evening out, and that also extends itself to its private dining spaces. If you don’t mind being on the first floor of the restaurant, the “Greenhouse” area with its lowered ceiling and the aforementioned macrame and plants is a whimsical place for a group dinner of up to 32 seats. If you want a more private feel, the second-floor mezzanine is also available, boasting space for 45 people seated, and both areas can set up a five-course menu of chef Srijith “Sri” Gopinathan’s food from Kerala. For more information, email [email protected].
Bodega SF
This family-run Vietnamese fine dining enclave is perfect for many things: Bun cha, pho, and late-night craft cocktails. But, relevantly, the business is also home to the Felix, a subterranean dance floor and lounge that’s bookable for private parties online. The max capacity is 70 guests, and the cost to rent the space depends on the day of the week.
The Progress
The Progress underwent a renovation, and with the new look comes an updated, light-filled private space dubbed the Workshop situated above the main dining room. The space accommodates 40 seated diners or standing room for 50; some extra details can easily make your event feel more special, such as personalized menus, florals, and a chef appearance. To book an event, diners can reach out through the Progress website.
Rise Over Run
Hotels typically have plenty of space to rent out for conferences, private events, and more, but few (if any!) can boast the unique private dining option of a solarium on a roof. Enter Rise Over Run, which features clear windows for diners to soak up the sun over cocktails and bites before it changes into a nighttime jewel box with glittering city lights below. For more information, head to the events page.
Aziza
Chef Mourad Lahlou’s Richmond District restaurant is still a stunner, with plenty of space for your next event. The modern Moroccan restaurant can host up to 32 guests in this separate space off the back dining room. For more information and pricing check the Aziza website or email [email protected].
Che Fico
Up to 14 diners can take over the upstairs Celentano Room at Che Fico, the Italian restaurant that took over a former garage on Divisadero. With red-and-white tile flooring, Italian magazine covers papering the walls, and exposed concrete, it’s a stylish space for a small event. Check the Che Fico website for pricing and more.
Fiorella Sunset
There aren’t many private dining options in the Sunset, so a private rooftop makes Fiorella’s Ninth Avenue outpost all the more appealing. Up to 70 guests can take over the full rooftop, or smaller parties of up to 34 guests can take the semi-private upper rooftop deck for a meal of antipasti, pizza, pasta, and cocktails. If you’re looking for something even more intimate (and perhaps affordable), book the restaurant’s Bar Nonnina space. Menus and pricing are available on the restaurant website.
Flour + Water
Most know the proper restaurant spaces of Flour + Water in the Mission, but the building has two unique private dining rooms that go beyond the typical city offerings. If you’re looking for something relaxing and home-y, well, the test kitchen is housed inside a former private apartment above the restaurant that seats up to 10 guests. The other space private dining option is Flour + Water’s dough room, a kitchen space that manages to be charming and low-key if that’s what you’re looking for. Whichever room you go for, the team will outfit your party with a family-style chef’s choice tasting menu and optional wine pairings. For more info, head to the private events page.
Foreign Cinema
Take a seat at Foreign Cinema's "director’s table" for an evening of sophisticated California-Mediterranean fare and a view of the romantic, string-lit courtyard below. Adjacent to the table sits a vintage 35 mm projector which plays out classic films beneath the translucent canopy. Foreign Cinema can be reserved for up to 12 guests with various packages and pricing.
