Big New Coffee Roastery and Cafe From Linea Opening in Potrero Hill

Linea heads to Potrero

Linea Caffe will expand from its 3417 18th Street espresso bar location to a big new 5,000-square-foot cafe and roastery in Potrero Hill at 1125 Mariposa, due to open June 1 according to a press release shared with Sprudge. According to the release, owner Andrew Barnett will use a vintage German Probat UG-22, and the cafe will feature pastries from Dogpatch baker Neighbor Bakehouse, whole leaf teas from Song Tea, plus matcha from Mizuba. The 1125 Mariposa space was formerly Ecco Caffe, also owned by Andrew Barnett, which he sold to Chicago’s Intelligentsia — they ran the space for a year and then closed it. Now, it’s back with Barnett through Linea.

Loving Cup has closed in Hayes Valley

Beloved frozen yogurt and rice pudding destination Loving Cup has closed in Hayes Valley at 535 Octavia. Never fear: Nearby locations now include one on Divisadero, and Loving Cup is still on the up and up, with new owners La Boulangerie now in charge of the brand, which started in Russian Hill in 2008.

DoorDash highlights immigrant and refugee restaurants

Delivery service DoorDash is rolling out a new “Kitchens Without Borders” program, highlighting 10 Bay Area immigrant and refugee-owned restaurants and promoting them with free delivery fees and cool videos of each. The spots: Besharam, Z Zoul Cafe, Onigilly, Los Cilantros, Sabores Del Sur, West Park Farm & Sea, Little Green Cyclo, Afghan Village, D’Maize, and Sweet Lime Thai Cuisine.

Amy Poehler’s Wine Country

SNL genius Amy Poehler’s directorial debut, Wine Country, arrives on Netflix on May 10, and ahead of the release, Poehler spoke with Wine Spectator about her inspiration and experience. Turns out, Poehler and friends once went up to Napa to celebrate the birthday of her fellow SNL player Rachel Dratch. They shot the feature — which stars Dratch plus Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey, Ana Gasteyer, Emily Spivey, and Paula Pella, at locations including Artesa Estate, Quintessa winery, Baldacci Family Vineyards, and the town of Calistoga. “We were really grateful that Calistoga opened up its streets to us, because we were coming a short time after the fires, which were incredibly devastating for that area, and very traumatic,” Poehler told the publication. “And a lot of places that we scouted had burned, or had suffered a lot of loss.”

Brazilian açai bowls, salgados, and more for the Castro

The Castro’s former Hearth Coffee space (3985 17th Street) will become a Brazilian breakfast and lunch spot, Cafe de Casa. Lucimar Canedo and her daughters already run two such cafes, one in South San Francisco and another at Fisherman’s wharf: They’ll serve savory salgados, sweet and savory crepes, and açai bowls, coffee, and more. Before opening, they’ll remodel the space.
