Downtown Margarita Hotspot Tropisueño Opening Westfield Centre Counterpart

The people behind Yerba Buena Lane’s Tropisueño are designing another SoMa spot for post-work margarita meet ups, this one in the Westfield San Francisco Centre mall. Their new restaurant, to be called Cocosueño, will open this summer on the fourth level of the building, “under the dome,” placing it alongside other businesses like M.Y. China and Tap (415). Above them: The 102-foot wide skylight, which dates to 1908 and was a major focus of the building’s 2006-completed redesign by the Westfield Group.

Cocosueño will be a full-service restaurant with “a fresh, sea side aesthetic” according to a statement from the restaurant. Expect dishes “devoted to southern Mexico“ and a bar scene “that emulates a vacation style dream.” If you close your eyes, you can almost see it now.

For the moment, we’ll have to keep dreaming, as the restaurant isn’t sharing further details. But, for background, Tropisueño draws daily customers for its affordable, crowd-pleasing Mexican food like enchiladas, quesadillas, and burritos — to say nothing of the unlimited chips and salsa. It’s already got one sister restaurant, El Gusano in Old Oakland. And when Cocosueño arrives, it will join other newcomer food tenants in the Westfield Centre including Bake Cheese Tart, a popular Japanese bakery known for its fluffy mousse tarts.
