Philly’s Insanely Popular Fried Chicken and Donut Shop Is Popping Up in SF

It’s all for the launch of its new cookbook

Fried chicken and doughnuts from Federal Donuts
Nick Solares

Federal Donuts, the crazy popular Philly restaurant that serves only coffee, fried chicken, and doughnuts, is coming all the way to San Francisco for a limited time only.

It’s part of the book tour from chefs Michael Solomonov and Steven Cook, and partner Tom Henneman of Federal Donuts, celebrating the launch of “Federal Donuts: The (Partially) True Spectacular Story.”

The restaurant is known for its doughnuts in flavors like strawberry lavender, cookies ‘n’ cream, blueberry pancake, and white chocolate cherry. At the restaurant, the addictive fried chicken comes with a honey doughnut, and choice of dry seasoning (za’atar, coconut curry, buttermilk ranch), wet glaze (chili garlic, sweet soy garlic, honey ginger) or naked.

Unfortunately, there will be only one opportunity to feast on Federal Donuts doughnuts (and no fried chicken), though there will be two other dinners at which chef Solomonov (who is also behind Philadephia’s Zahav, and Dizengoff in New York) will cook with some of San Francisco’s very talented chefs. It’s all part of the Jewish Community Center’s city-wide pop-up series, which focus on sharing culture with all parts of the community. See below for the lineup:
