Zhytomyr (Ukrainian: Жито́мир pronounced [ʒɪˈtɔmɪr], Roushie: Жито́мир, Pols: Żytomierz, Yiddish: זשיטאָמיר‎) is a ceety in the North o the wastren hauf o Ukraine. It is the admeenistrative centre o the Zhytomyr Oblast (province), as well as the admeenistrative centre o the surroondin Zhytomyr Raion (destrict), awtho it is no a pairt o it. Zhytomyr is locatit at aroond 50°16′N 28°40′E, occupyin a aurie o 65 km² (25 sq mi).

The current estimatit population is 260,000 (as o 2023).

Zhytomyr is a major transportation hub. The ceety lees on a historic route linkin the ceety o Kiev wi the wast throu Brest. The day it links Warsaw wi Kiev, Minsk wi Izmail, an several major ceeties o Ukraine. Zhytomyr wis the location o Ozerne airbase an aw, a key Cauld War strategic aircraft base located 11 km (6.8 mi) sootheast o the ceety.

Important economic activities o Zhytomyr include lumber millin, fuid processin, granite quarryin, metalwirkin, an the manufactur o muisical graith.

Zhytomyr Oblast is the main centre of the Pols minority in Ukraine, an in the ceety itsel thare is a lairge Roman-Catholic Pols cemetery, foondit in 1800. It is regardit as the third biggest Pols cemetery ayont borders o Poland, ahint the Lychakivskiy Cemetery in Lviv an Rossa Cemetery in Vilnius.
