Guilan and Layth ask Guiv not to kill the lion, but when they leave Guiv still kills the male and brings back to the camp as a trophy.[1]

When their father dies, he on his deathbed asks Guiv to be the ruler. But soon after the Caliph of Baghdad army occupies the city without a drop of blood, and Amir presents an ultimatum, let Layth rule or there will be bloodshed. At first, Guiv rejects it, but is convinced to concede.[1]

Guiv still wants to rule and plots to kill Layth, but while standing over him with a sword he can't go through with it. He is discovered and almost drowned at the palace's pool. Guilan manages to make Layth forgive Guiv with a threat to her own life and her baby. This near death experience awakens something in Guiv. Guiv then leaves the palace and notices a peacock following him, he shoos it back, but it doesn't listen. Some soldiers also come after him and tell him they are duty bound to follow him. But Guiv twists their words, and tells them then they follow nobody, indicating he himself is nobody now.[1]

Reaching the mountains, Guiv is curious on why the peacock is still following him, then it suddenly speaks and transforms into Turul. Turul tells Guiv that no one is in the citadel. Guiv is surprised that Turul knows where he is going, but still presses on. On his way up the mountain, Guiv is attacked by a lion, he fights him off, but refuses to kill it. The lion doesn't share the sentiment and attacks Guiv again, Guiv then cuts the lion in half. When Guiv wants Turul to leave him alone and tosses a rock at it it creates a rockslide, and to make matters worse a boar attacks Guiv. Guiv manages to kill the boar, but the boar's tusks are stuck in Guiv's leg. Guiv cuts the part of his thigh out, and then passes out.[1]

Turul carries Guiv to the fortress, and also brings the body of the lion there. Turul licked Guiv's wound telling him it will heal quick. Guiv recovers quickly, and starts to explore the citadel, he finds nothing but bones. After seeing the bones, Guiv has a nightmare about the skeletons. While stroking the fire, an ember flew into a basin, and it burst into a blue flame. In the fire Guiv saw things yet to happen. The fire was noticed, and man game seeking the veiled prophet. Guiv covered himself and opened the door, but did not say anything. The man asked some question and left content even with the silence. However the man spread word of the prophets return, and many people came seeking him. Just then some feathers from Turul fell into the fire and image of Guiv was projected to the people detailing a prophecy. Guiv put out the flame with his hand burning it severely and hid. The people broke into the citadel to see the prophet, but also found only the bones and got scared.[1]

Guiv later woke up not remembering the prophecy or how he got where he was. He took the belt of the lion he had killed earlier, and stepped out to the yard and saw a pride of lions waiting for him. The lions smelled the belt and did not attack Guiv. Guiv then adorned the belt, and shared the lions' meal. Some time later, the guardian of waters brought a baby to the door, and recognized Guiv. He told that Guilan and Layth are dead. Guiv after some thinking gathered the lions and went back to Marv. The gate guard recognized him and reveled themselves to be loyal to him. Guiv asked them to gather all guards who are loyal to him. The gathered force then attacked the palace, and Guiv confronted Amir. Amir set the palace on fire and tried to escape. But Guiv went after him and in a panic, Amir caught fire, and burned to death. Guiv managed to get out of the burning palace, but remembered the peacock, and went back inside after it. He saved it and saw a vision of Guilan and Layth in the fire. Back outside, Guiv raised the newborn and declared that only for her must they die.[1]
