Hi, my name is Debora Beijerbacht. I was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 1969. As a child I wanted to become a watchmaker. Instead, I got my training in (graphic) art, bookbinding and restoring old books and manuscripts. I did keep my fascination for all things small but it wasn't until 2007 that I (re)discovered the world of miniatures and I've been making scale models for dollhouses ever since.
My inspiration can come from anything, big or small, but each new project always starts with some sort of research. It's the part of the creating process I love most cos it always leads me to discover new aspects of the various arts, culture or history involved.
The most fun part is setting myself new challenges like working with new techniques, materials or tools. I embrace the mistakes I make along the journey because that's how I learn and grow. And all of that feeds my drive to do even better than before!
Right now the main focus in my work is on woodcarving. Trying to get the most detail and crisp carving out of a beautiful piece of wood definitely lights up my fire and I'm passionate to go far, and even beyond of what our imagination can come up with.
This blog is to share these adventures through miniature land with you. At the same time I hope they can be an inspiration for you too.
Dear Debora, My name is Christina Siomos. I have been an avid collector of high quality artisan miniatures for many years and I absolutely love your work. I too have started a blog https://behind-the-cupboard-door.blogspot.co.uk/ but haven't had time to post any pictures yet as I am currently undertaking a PhD. I see you haven't updated your blog for some time, so I'm not sure if you still make miniatures. Do you take commissions? If so, I would like to order the following items I have fallen in love with on your blog. The Beechwood and metal sled (in the miscellaneous section) and the pair of snow shoes (in the main home section). If you would be willing to make these items for me, I'd be extremely grateful. Please contact me with details of price etc at [email protected] I very much look forward to hearing from you. Thank you so much. Best wishes, Christina
