For those with Georgian dumplings on their mind, the wait is over. Kargi Gogo, the popular Georgian dumpling cart-turned-restaurant, is opening for good today, the Oregonian first reported. The restaurant has been slowly but surely opening doors for weeks, temporarily opening for a handful of days to test recipes for khachapuri (stuffed breads) and khinkali (dumplings).
Since the news broke about the reopening in April, Kargi Gogo owner Sean Fredericks has talked about splitting the menu into three sections: one for dumplings, one for breads, and one for sides. A sample menu on the website shows a similar breakdown, with breads stuffed with cheese or slow-cooked beans, khinkali packed with beef and pork, and salads and roasted vegetables sprinkled with pomegranate seeds or dollops of ricotta. The restaurant also has a selection of Georgian sodas and Oregon beers, as well as a selection of Georgian wines. Kargi Gogo will open in the former Big Egg space from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
