“Lowest ever reported in the city”
Will rents tick up for restaurants higher than they already are? Perhaps now that there’s less retail space around the city than ever before, according to a recent report. Only 14 percent of prime retail space was available from July to September, “the lowest ever recorded in the city.” It’s a turnaround from 2021, when spaces available peaked at 28 percent. Lower Fifth Avenue has the fewest vacancies, while the Meatpacking District saw the most.
New York pizza, fact and fiction
If you’re the type who’s interested in discussing the facts versus fiction surrounding New York pizza and its origin, Scott’s Pizza Tours founder Scott Wiener is hosting a webinar with fellow pizza historian Peter Regas and Modernist publisher Stephanie Swane (behind Modernist Pizza) on Wednesday, October 9 at 11 a.m. EST. Wiener says they’ll cover “some of the basic pizza history and science mistakes in food writing and tour guiding (particularly in New York City).” It’ll conclude with a Q&A. Registration is required.
