Quality Branded, behind Don Angie, San Sabino, Bad Roman, Quality Bistro, and more, has opened the 140-seat Twin Tails, a Southeast Asian restaurant that riffs on “retro-futuristic” ’80s vibes. The new spot at Time Warner Center near Bad Roman (10 Columbus Circle, at West 58th Street), offers a menu of dishes that pull from Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. Chef and partner Craig Koketsu is cooking up king crab and uni buns, lemongrass ribs, and wok-tossed long beans. The bar pours throwback updates like a Bangkok Screwdriver with vodka, calamansi, galangal, Thai basil, and chile.
Heidi Klum to host “Crazy Pizza” opening party
A big-money pizzeria from Italy called Crazy Pizza is opening its first U.S. location and 16th overall. The shop is known for its dough-spinning pizzaioli turning out “yeast-free” pizza for a super-thin pie. Heidi Klum hosting the opening party on October 29 at 218 Lafayette Street, at Spring Street, in what had been Osteria Morini, the Marea sibling that closed in June. Italian Flavio Briatore is behind the restaurant, with locations in Europe and the Middle East. Simone Cavalagli is the chef, steering a menu of burrata salad, bresaola, and a “crazy salad” of potatoes, pickles, ham, peas, carrots, mayo, and egg. A handful of pastas are available like tagliatelle Bolognese. Pizzas include a pata negra, salame and gorgonzola, Adriatica with tuna, and more. Prices for pies are $24 to $55. The official opening is November 6.
Four NYC bars in “World’s 50 Best”
Four New York City bars landed in the annual international round-up, World’s 50 Best Bars, including the recently remodeled Double Chicken Please (No.14), Kent Hospitality Group’s Overstory (No.15), as well as new bars like Martiny’s (No.24) and Superbueno (No.27). Handshake Speakeasy from Mexico City took the top spot, the first bar from Mexico to do so.
Scarr’s x Soothr for a Brooklyn Saturday lunch
Reservation platform OpenTable is hosting collaborations with whimsical team-ups, including Scarr’s x Soothr making Thai pizza Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at Brooklyn’s Domino Park, along with Wildair offering cookies and cream doughnuts. On Sunday, the series heads to Manhattan’s Flatiron Plaza, where two-Michelin-starred Sushi Noz is selling a nigiri set and Raf’s x sibling the Musket Room will make Iberico croquettes and beef-patty croissants. There’s a hitch in that it requires a credit card for access: “All you need to do is show your Visa card when you arrive.”
