Wylie Dufresne’s Doughnut Bakery Is Almost Open — and More Intel

— Lobster roll mini-chain Luke’s Lobster is expanding their Brooklyn Bridge outpost to be a full sit-down restaurant. It will have 12 indoor seats, 34 outdoor tables, and wine and beer. The restaurant is also offering a selfie guide so that people can pick prime spots to take photos in the picturesque neighborhood. “This is just a guide saying, ‘This is the most beautiful angle and spot in the park to capture the city scene with your lobster roll,’” co-founder Ben Conniff tells DNAinfo.

— Several bars are hosting parties to write postcards to President Donald Trump.

— Looks like Wylie Dufresne’s new doughnut shop Du’s Donuts and Coffee is getting really close to opening. The chef is hiring bakers for the Williamsburg shop at the William Vale Hotel.

It’s not a full restaurant, but it is the first project from the James Beard Award-winning chef in more than three years.

— Manila Social Club — purveyor of the $100 24k-karat Gold Cristal Ube Donut — has been temporarily closed in Brooklyn as the owners do a residency in Miami, but for one night only this week, chef Bjorn De La Cruz will be at Susan Sarandon’s ping pong club Spin for a “Donuts & DJs” event. Delacruz is creating a special doughnut for the club, and people can also preorder that golden doughnut here.

— Longtime West Village restaurant Alexandra has closed its doors. Husband-wife team Eran Arana and Liz Arana opened the bistro at 455 Hudson St. in 2005, serving a menu of American classics like strip steak, burgers, and buttermilk fried chicken. Liz, an alum of places like Le Bernardin and Park Avenue Cafe, ran the kitchen, while Eran acted as the host of the dining room.

— The always nostalgic, often curmudgeonly Jeremiah’s Vanishing New York thinks the number of tourists going to Katz’s is now out of control. So many visit the restaurant that it feels nearly impossible for a local New Yorker to eat at the historic restaurant, he writes. His suggestion: special deals for locals. “Be the first to institute a ‘Local Priority’ policy — let anyone with a valid NYC ID in the door ahead of the tourist line.”

— The Brooklyn Flea is leaving Fort Greene to combine with Smorgasburg over in Williamsburg’s East River State Park. The change starts on April 1.

— A brutal fight happened outside popular Lower East Side bar Piano’s last weekend. Two men punched, kicked, and stomped the 24-year-old male victim, sending him to the hospital in serious condition.

— Oakland coffee chain Blue Bottle Coffee is opening a new outpost on the Lower East Side this week. They’re offering free coffee on Thursday.

— Hip Chinatown restaurant Fung Tu is hosting an “Asian Food Mafia” banquet with food from a bunch of different Asian food chefs, including Pichet Ong, Christine Lau, Ed & Lien Lin, and Medwin Pang. It will be next Monday at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., and proceeds go to Chef’s Connection, which helps train and place unemployed people in restaurants around the city. Tickets cost $110 and include free beer and wine.
