North Tyneside Steel Band (NTSB) recently celebrated their 30th birthday and are one of the most active steel band groups in the North East.
They love performing at public events, with recent highlights of performances at the London and Rotterdam Carnivals. NTSB have previously been finalists and semi-finalists at Music for Youth competitions.
No experience is required to take part (and don’t worry if you can’t read music: all you need is to be enthusiastic to play!). All groups are a great way to make friends and meet new people, learn to play new music, improve your musicality and boost your self confidence.
All rehearsals are led by experienced tutors and musicians, many of whom have national and international experience of playing steel pans. Under their expert guidance, it only takes a few sessions to get to grips with the pans and play a recognisable tune.
North Tyneside Steel Band offers sessions as follows during term time at the Langdale Centre, Wallsend:
Beginners Band: Wednesday 6.00 to 7.30pm
Adult/community Band: Wednesday 7.30 to 9.00pm
Performance Band: Tuesday 6.00 to 7.30pm / 7.30 to 9.00pm
