Our Mission

Our mission is to provide music in North Tyneside for all children and young people through a diverse and inclusive range of high-quality, accessible musical opportunities and experiences. This is achieved by:

Delivering a wide range of first access experiences in schools and in the community.

Allowing clear progression routes for all with access to a range of music instruments, musical styles and genres.

Creating new partnerships and improving partnership working with all the arts organisations we already collaborate with.

Our aims include:

Providing a broad, balanced and progressive range of musical opportunities.
Being inclusive and supportive of all learners, regardless of circumstance.
Creating projects and activities to ensure the development of high-quality learning.
Encouraging all young people, teachers, classroom assistants and parents to engage in and support high-quality music in North Tyneside throughout all key stages.
Working with schools in North Tyneside to develop the aims of the Wider Opportunities Programme.
Following the National Plan for Music Education (NPME) to enable all learners to achieve their personal best by delivering the following core and extension roles in our local area as defined by the DfE and Arts Council England:

All music education hubs in England have clearly defined core and extension roles as set out by the DfE/Arts Council England:

Core roles:

Ensure that every child aged 5-18 has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument (other than voice) through whole-class teaching programmes for a minimum of a term with weekly tuition on the same instrument.
Provide opportunities to play in groups, bands and orchestras, and create performance opportunities for all.
Ensure that clear progression routes are available and affordable to all young people.
Develop a singing strategy to guarantee that every pupil in North Tyneside sings regularly and that choirs are available in the area.

Extension Roles:

Offer CPD training to school staff, to support schools delivering music in the curriculum.
Provide an instrument loan service, with discounts or free supply for those on low incomes.
Provide access to large scale and / or high quality music experiences for children and young people in North Tyneside, working with professional musicians and / or venues.

All music hubs in England are funded by the Department for Education, via the Arts Council.

Funding is calculated on the number of children aged 5-16 living in each demographic area. More information about funding for music hubs can be found at: www.artscouncil.org.uk
