Half Shell Opens in Faubourg St. John; Creole Pot in Treme

The Gambit scoops up a couple openings along the Esplanade and Claiborne corridors this week. First up, Della Hasselle reports that The Half Shell Oyster Bar and Grill is softly open at 3101 Esplanade Avenue (former Creole Cottage space) in Faubourg St. John from owner/one time operator of Cafe Negril Mark Johari Lawes. On the menu: char-broiled oysters, steak, lobster, po boys, burgers, and even vegetarian options for lunch and dinner, as well as 'full service' breakfast options.

There's also a new comfort food spot on Claiborne in the Treme, per Sarah Baird: "Located in a charmingly small, wooden building complete with hand-painted signs and a shaded patio area, The Creole Pot opened quietly this spring, but closed in July to undergo renovations and a menu overhaul." Serving the likes of yakamein, peach cobbler, pork chops, snoballs and more at 767 N. Claiborne (next door to Wing Snack).
