Hot new breakfast alert: The Times-Pic's Jessie Lingenfelter reports that Cafe Hope has taken over the Green Dot Cafe located inside the Rose Keller Library and Community Center (4300 Broad). Green Dot Cafe previously had a short run under different ownership and shuttered in 2013, but Cafe Hope a Marrero-based nonprofit/restaurant that provides job training/life skills to at-risk youth expanded their internship program about a month ago when they reopened the Broadmoor restaurant. Chef Melissa Martin (who helped open Satsuma and Eiffel Society) and manager Rachel Ferguson run the cafe alongside recent Cafe Hope grads.
The menu includes baked goods think "banana and chocolate chip muffins topped with toasted quinoa, sweet potato biscuits and daily quiche specials" and salads/sandwiches with a majority of the produce coming from Cafe Hope's student farm and community garden. They also have some of their produce and housemade jams for purchase. The cafe also features bread from Bellegarde Bakery, some meat from Cleaver & Co. and French Truck Coffee.
