Virtual Console(JP), sometimes abbreviated to VC, was a video game download service that was offered by Nintendo.
Described by Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata as "the video game version of Apple's iTunes Store", the service featured titles from past Nintendo consoles (Game Boy, Game Boy Color, NES, SNES) and non-Nintendo platforms (Game Gear, and PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16).
The Virtual Console service fo the Nintendo 3DS went live on June 6, 2011.
