Team Rocket are an organized crime syndicate in pursuit of evil and exploitation of Pokémon based in the Kanto and Johto regions with a small outpost in the Sevii Islands.
While its main focus is stealing or capturing, then selling rare and strong Pokémon, it also funds and conducts cruel experimental research on Pokémon. Their oath, as posted on the wall of one of their many bases, is "Steal Pokémon for profit. Exploit Pokémon for profit. All Pokémon exist for the glory of Team Rocket." Their ultimate goal is to take over the world using Pokémon.
Appearance[]
Team Rocket has appeared in lots of different Pokémon games over the years. The games they feature in are Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal, Fire Red, Leaf Green, Heart Gold, Soul Silver, Ultra Sun, Ultra Moon, Let’s Go Pikachu!, and Let’s Go Eevee! They are also prominent in the Pokémon anime and various Pokémon manga.
Most of the time, they are wearing black outfits with the group's insignia on their chest and gray gloves and boots. Females wear short skirts while men wear long pants.
Jessie and James are different in that they wear the inverted colors with black gloves and boots and a white outfit though they do wear a black shirt underneath. The insignia is still red though. The Generation II female grunt shares similarities with Jessie though with pigtails instead.
Some former members appear in the games Pokémon Black and White and Pokémon Sun and Moon.
In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, they appear as Team Rainbow Rocket. In this game, their goal is to use Ultra Beasts to take over the world. Many villains from previous games, like Lysandre and Cyrus, joined this team.
Anime[]
In the anime, Team Rocket is based in Kanto, much like the games, with many smaller branches across Kanto and Johto. Like in the games, Giovanni was the Gym Leader of Viridian City's Pokémon Gym during Ash Ketchum's journey through the region; however, he was later revealed to have abandoned his duties.
An underground school for aspiring Team Rocket operatives is present somewhere in the region, while the organization's headquarters were formerly near Pallet Town. The headquarters was relocated sometime during Ash's journey in Johto or Hoenn to a large building in a canyon following damages it sustained due to Mewtwo's anger at being controlled.
The most prominent members in the anime are Jessie, James and Meowth, low-ranking members of the group who want to steal Ash's Pikachu and any other rare Pokémon they come across. During early episodes of Pokémon the Series: Black and White, Jessie and James wore black for a while.
