SaGa is a role-playing game franchise from Square. It started as one of the earliest role-playing games on the Game Boy borrowing the Final Fantasy brand outside of Japan. The series is known for its nonlinear gameplay and open-ended approach to progress.

Legacy[]
The SaGa games have directly led to the spiritual successors The Legend of Legacy and The Alliance Alive from FuRyu, which were developed in part with some staff that worked on earlier titles. The open ended structure of Octopath Traveler seems to have been influenced by some of the later entries in the series.
