Detective Pikachu Returns is a Pokémon adventure game developed by Creatures Inc. for the Nintendo Switch. It is a sequel to the Nintendo 3DS game Detective Pikachu featuring Tim Goodman and the talking Detective Pikachu.

Plot[]

The game takes place in Ryme City, reuniting Pikachu with his partner Tim Goodman while solving mysteries and "discovering the origins of the great detective Pikachu". The game concludes the disappearance of Tim's father Harry Goodman, who disappeared prior to the first game. The game features Pokémon from games released after the original.

Development[]

The game was first announced on May 29, 2019, not long after the Detective Pikachu film was released, with the only information being that it would feature a different take on the resolution than the film. The title, footage and release date were revealed in the June 21, 2023 Nintendo Direct.

Reception[]

The game received mostly mixed reviews from game critics. On Metacritic, the game has a score of "68" based on 41 reviews, indicating "mixed or average".^[2]
