The Cloaking Device is an item that originated from Perfect Dark. It is a powerless, but useful, weapon in the Super Smash Bros. series. Its power is to turn a character into almost invisible. Unlike the Vanish Cap from Super Mario 64, the Cloaking Device almost camouflages with its environment and a character is not transparent and you do not take damage. It's appearance on the Super Smash Bros. Melee game as an item is a short comer and the first appearance written on its trophy is "TOP SECRET", strangely like the Motion-Sensor Bomb trophy. This is because the item's design is based on GoldenEye 007 but, since Rare was being bought, Nintendo no longer had any rights to mention that game.
