The Circle Pad Pro is an optional hardware add-on for the Nintendo 3DS which, when attached, adds a second analog joystick and extra set of shoulder buttons as well as a duplicate R button (since the R button is far away, this was added for convenience).
There are several 3DS games are compatible with this device. Games that do utilize the Circle Pad Pro generally use the additional analog stick for enhanced camera control. It communicates with the 3DS via its infrared sensor.
The first game to support it was Monster Hunter 3G in Japan and Resident Evil: Revelations in Europe and North America. The Circle Pad Pro was released in Japan on December 10, 2011, January 27, 2012 in Europe, on February 2, 2012 in Australia, and in North America on February 7, 2012 and is not Region-locked. In North America it is only available through GameStop.
A Circle Pad Pro was also made for the Nintendo 3DS XL called the Circle Pad Pro XL. This version of the Circle Pad Pro was only available on Nintendo’s online store.
With the New Nintendo 3DS/XL, the controls of the Circle Pad Pro were integrated into the system by default. The right Circle Pad was redesigned into a pointing stick above the ABXY buttons. The ZL and ZR have also been made smaller and were moved next to the L and R buttons.
