Bronto Burt are recurring enemies in the Kirby series, first appearing in Kirby's Dream Land. They are spherical-pink Dreamlanders, with fly-like wings, that let them hover in the air in any direction. As flying enemies, Bronto Burt exist in order to prevent Kirby and the player from flying over stage obstacles. These flying pests are a common sight, buzzing about the skies of Dream Land on fly-like wings, attempting to get in Kirby's way. They are one of the most iconic Kirby enemies, appearing in all of the main series platformers and most spinoffs as well and their ubiquitousness has earned them the title "Waddle Dee of the sky".
Bronto Burt attack in a variety of patterns. Often, they fly in set patterns such as vertically up and down, or horizontally in a zig-zag pattern, although some will sit on the ground waiting for the player to approach before taking to the air to chase them. Sometimes they are seen carrying things with their feet, such as other enemies or bombs and will attempt to drop these on Kirby's head when he approaches.
Appearance[]
Bronto Burt are spherical pink creatures with orange feet. Instead of arms, they possess fly-like wings. They have tiny mouths and large eyes. Unlike many other Dream Landers such as Waddle Dee, Cappy, Poppy Bros. Jr. and Kirby, their eyes have visible sclera.
Games[]
Kirby's Dream Land[]
In this game, Bronto Burt are the basic minions of King Dedede, alongside Waddle Dee and Waddle Doo. They appear in every level, some flying in horizontal zig-zag patterns, while others fly up and down in vertical lines and some sit on the ground, waiting for Kirby to approach before flying towards him. In Extra Mode, they are replaced the faster and stronger Koozer.
Super Smash Bros. series[]
Although not playable characters, Bronto Burt have made an appearance in every Super Smash Bros. game so far, a trait they share with fellow Kirby characters; Kirby, King Dedede and Whispy Woods.
Flocks of Bronto Burt cameo on the Dream Land stage, where they can occasionally be seen flying in the background. This stage appears in every Super Smash Bros. game except Brawl.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Bronto Burt appears as a collectible trophy for the Kirby series and a sticker, depicting his Kirby 64 artwork. Bronto Burt's sticker increases a fighter's body and spin attacks by 4. Bronto Burt was also intended to appear as an enemy in Subspace Emissary alongside other Kirby foes, but was cut. Presumably it would have appeared in the Lake Shore and Cave stages since at that point in the story, the main characters are pursuing King Dedede to his castle.
Bronto Burt finally appear as enemies in the Smash Run mode for the 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U. Mimicking their behavior in the Kirby series, they are fairly weak enemies that fly through the air and usually spawn in flocks. Some will chase after fighters and perform a spin attack that slices their opponents with their wings.
