Banana peels are used in a range of games that cause the common effect of siding/falling over. Banana Peels are commonly used in the Mario Kart series causing Karts that crash into them to skid out of control.
Mario Kart[]
Banana peels have appeared in every Mario Kart video game to date starting with Super Mario Kart on the SNES. They are usually obtained by players in first-third place, and thus aren't as useful as some of the other more prominent items (such as Red Shells and Mushrooms). When a player got a banana peel from a box, they could either drop it or trail it behind them. If they trailed the item, then they could potentially block an oncoming item such as a red shell, which would hit the banana peel rather than the player. This tactic wouldn't work for some items, however, such as with a Blue Shell. This item also has a variant called the Triple Banana
Super Smash Bros.[]
Banana peels are items that appeared in Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. They could be picked up and tossed by any of the players. If an opponent walked over a banana peel, they would slip and fall, making them vulnerable for a short period of time. Diddy Kong's down B move would cause him to pick up and toss a banana, where it would have the same effect as the aforementioned item.
Trophy Description[]
The peel from a Japanese fiber banana of the Musaceae plant family. It contains a high volume of vegetable oil, which oozes out when the peel is stepped on, making things slippery. In Smash Bros., the peel fulfills its destiny as a comedic prop by making passersby slip. Characters who land on their backsides will be defenseless until they recover their footing.
